We are seeking an experienced Compensation Accountant to join a growing finance organization. Reporting to the Managing Director, Financial Planning & Analysis
, this individual will be responsible for the financial accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting associated with new and existing compensation programs.
This is a highly hands-on "doer" role rather than an oversight-only position
. The successful candidate will be directly involved in building processes, performing accounting and analysis, preparing reporting, and partnering across Finance, HR, and Tax.
The position will support compensation programs including annual discretionary bonuses, restricted unit plans, phantom restricted unit plans, carried interest plans, and other incentive programs. The role will also oversee the financial accounting associated with equity purchases and sales under equity purchase programs.
The ideal candidate is independent, motivated, highly detail-oriented, and comfortable analyzing complex financial data and clearly communicating conclusions to senior stakeholders.
Key ResponsibilitiesEstablish and maintain monthly accounting processes and procedures for incentive compensation and equity plans.
Prepare and post all relevant compensation-related entries to the general ledger.
Perform financial analysis, modeling, and internal reporting to support business and financial performance.
Gather and analyze data across existing and newly implemented systems while partnering with multiple departments.
Prepare quarterly footnotes, equity roll-forwards, and compensation schedules for senior leadership and the Board.
Perform "what-if" scenarios and sensitivity analyses related to new and existing business functions, compensation programs, and product lines.
Partner closely with HR and FP&A to evaluate financial trends, including actual-versus-budget performance and variance analysis.
Support the annual budgeting process and monthly forecast updates.
Liaise with external equity administration and workplace solutions partners.
Enhance financial controls and develop and document standard operating procedures.
Partner with HR on the implementation of a carried interest software solution
.
Assist with quarterly reviews and annual audits related to compensation and equity accounting.
Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, reporting, and operational efficiency.
QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
.
CPA preferred.
7+ years of compensation accounting experience.
Experience preparing financial statement footnotes and equity roll-forwards
.
Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
.
Experience accounting for incentive compensation and equity-based programs.
Experience with compensation structures such as discretionary bonuses, restricted units, phantom equity, carried interest, or similar incentive plans.
Strong financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, and variance-analysis capabilities.
Experience partnering cross-functionally with FP&A, HR, Tax, and Accounting
.
Strong analytical and communication skills.
Ability to operate independently and take ownership of detailed accounting processes.
Systems & Technical SkillsExperience with financial, consolidation, reporting, or equity administration platforms is highly valued, including:
