The Opportunity

Manhattan Justice Opportunities seeks to rethink justice in Manhattan and build a justice system that is more responsive to individuals’ and communities’ needs. Manhattan Justice is a centralized, court‑based screening, resource, and referral hub that provides judges, prosecutors and defense attorneys at New York County Criminal Court and Supreme Court with a wide array of social service‑based sentencing options in misdemeanor and felony cases.

Manhattan Justice offers onsite case management, psycho‑educational groups, and restorative justice programming, and provides referrals to community‑based service providers for mental health, substance use, employment, primary health care services and more.

Manhattan Justice is seeking an Administrative Assistant Fellow. Reporting to the Clinical Director of Felony Alternatives to Incarceration, the Administrative Assistant Fellow will assist in administrative tasks, greet and engage participants and visitors, maintain participant and program supply inventories, and assist project leadership in coordinating daily project operations.

Responsibilities
  • Help ensure that Manhattan Justice’s office is a warm and welcoming environment;
  • Welcome program participants and other visitors in the office reception area and staff the front desk, including greeting participants, scheduling participants for intakes/assessments, connecting participants with the appropriate staff member/resources, and answering questions about Manhattan Justice’s services;
  • Assist with data entry related to front desk responsibilities;
  • Help manage the office and participant supply inventories including tracking inventory, organizing supplies, shelving/stocking new supplies in three office spaces, and communicating with staff around supply needs;
  • Assist with mailing and/or delivering supplies to participants, as necessary;
  • Coordinate clothing donations, including soliciting, cataloging, and shelving new items, monitoring and updating inventory, and communicating with the team about donation distribution and needs;
  • Organize and catalog participant mail;
  • Assist with receiving, packaging, and distributing food donations;
  • Participate in individual and group supervision, staff meetings, and trainings; and
  • Perform other duties as necessary to support Manhattan Justice.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge and/or lived experience related to the criminal justice system and its impacts on communities;
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds in a culturally responsive manner;
  • Strong communication, organization and time‑management skills;
  • Experience using Microsoft Office programs, particularly Microsoft Outlook for regular email correspondence, preferred;
  • Willingness to learn office management systems;
  • Comfort working in a team setting;
  • Passion for making the justice system more humane and/or for working with criminal justice‑involved individuals;
  • Bilingual (English‑Spanish) preferred.

Position Type

Part‑time, 20 hours a week. This position is temporary for four months with a start date of April 6, 2026.

Compensation

The compensation range for this position is $21.50 – $25.00 per hour based on a 35‑hour work week and is commensurate with experience.
