Job Description & How to Apply Below
Location: New York

Friends Seminary educates students from kindergarten through twelfth grade, adhering to the values of the Religious Society of Friends. We strive to build a diverse school where students exercise their curiosity and imagination as they develop as scholars, artists and athletes. In a community that cultivates the practices of keen observation, unhurried reflection, critical thinking, and coherent expression, we listen for the single voice as we seek unity.

The disciplines of silence, study, and service provide the matrix for growth: silence opens us to change; study helps us to know the world; service challenges us to put our values into practice. At Friends Seminary, education is rooted in the Quaker belief in the Inner Light – that of God in every person. Guided by the testimonies of integrity, peace, equality, and simplicity, we prepare students to engage in the world that is and to help bring about a world that ought to be.

Founded in 1786, Friends Seminary, the oldest continually operating coeducational, independent Quaker school in New York City, seeks an Admissions Assistant to begin in August 2026. The Admissions and Enrollment Management Office is a dynamic, collaborative, mission-driven team in which our commitment to children and families is anchored by our Quaker testimonies. These practices serve to guide, inform, and inspire the composition of a diverse community.

In an ever-shifting independent school landscape, this role provides an opportunity to learn about an essential component of Friends Seminary, while also helping to build a community committed to our mission: to “prepare students to engage in the world that is and help to bring about a world that ought to be.”

Reporting to the Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management, the Admissions Assistant plays a vital role, often serving as the first point of contact for families, while supporting the daily operations of the Office – outreach efforts and initiatives, internal and external programming, and data management and reporting. The Admissions Assistant helps to ensure a seamless process and transition for prospective, applicant, and enrolled families.

Additionally, the Assistant will work closely with colleagues across the School, including but not limited to divisional offices, Communications, the Center for Peace, Equity, and Justice, Facilities, and Dining Services.

This is a 12-month, full-time position, beginning August, 2026. This role requires occasional evening and weekend coverage.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Monitor the Admissions and Enrollment Management inbox, respond to inquiries, ensure that families are kept informed of the admissions process and timeline, and manage all correspondence in a timely manner
  • Schedule appointments for applicant families as well as members of the Admissions and Enrollment Management Office
  • Upload and monitor all supporting documents for applications and ensure accuracy of applicant files
  • Generate and distribute reports with current admissions data
  • Coordinate Admissions events, including internal logistics (RSVP, nametags, reservation of space, etc.)
  • Maintain Admissions calendar
  • Collaborate with the Director of Financial Aid and Affordability
Qualifications
  • Proven experience as an administrative assistant or similar position
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times
  • Collaborative, resourceful, and team-oriented
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated efficiency and organizational skills
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to multitask and manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly
  • Proficiency with CRMs preferred (e.g., Blackbaud, Ravenna), Google platform, and spreadsheet software
  • Reliable, curious, responsible, proactive, accountable, and principled
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and belonging
Required

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • At least three years of experience

The annual salary range for this position is $73,000-$78,000.
