serves as the agency’s deputy director of the drug and alcohol testing program and ensures compliance with federal regulations and the nyc dot controlled substance and alcohol abuse policy in administering drug and alcohol tests for approximately 2,700 marine and commercial driver license (cdl) employees to enforce the agency’s zero tolerance policy. Supervises the drug and alcohol testing coordinator in the day‑to‑day operation of mandated testing for commercial driver license (cdl) employees and supervises the testing assistant.
serves as the agency’s designated employer representative (der). Immediately removes from safety‑sensitive duties employees who have a confirmed positive test result, as well as employees under agency policy. Also removes safety‑sensitive employees from performing safety‑sensitive functions that may pose a potential safety concern and requires a fitness‑for‑duty safety examination. Serves as the back‑up supervisor in the absence of the unit’s director and performs other related duties.
to be considered for this position candidates must be serving permanently in the title of principal administrative associate, or be reachable on the principal administrative associate civil service list. Principal administrative assoc - 10124.
minimum qualifications- a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory full‑time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, one year of which must have been in an administrative capacity or supervising staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty.
- an associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full‑time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, including one year of the administrative supervisory experience described in item one above.
- a four‑year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a state’s department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and five years of satisfactory full‑time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, including one year of the administrative supervisory experience as described in item one above.
- education and/or experience equivalent to items one, two, or three above. However, all candidates must possess the one year of administrative or supervisory experience described in item one above. Education above the high‑school level may be substituted for the general clerical/administrative experience (but not for the one year of administrative or supervisory experience described in item one above) at a rate of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for six months of experience up to a maximum of 3.5 years.

residency requirementnew york city residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
