The UK Mission to the United Nations in New York is looking to recruit a Visits Officer to join the Communications, Visits and Events team. The job would suit a highly organised and collaborative, strong communicator who is good with people, forward planning, pre‑empting and solving problems, and able to work to a high degree of accuracy under time pressure. A team player is essential, as is flexibility.
This opportunity is a rewarding role leading on high‑level visits in support of the UK’s multilateral objectives. Visits are a key tool of influence within the multilateral system, and the role holder will play a central part in ensuring they are impactful and well‑coordinated.
The Visits Officer is one of two full‑time roles that make up the UK Mission UN visits team, which organises all visits to the UN for HMG. This includes UK Government Ministers, Parliamentary Committees, other VIPs, and senior officials, as well as managing larger delegations for set‑piece UN conferences and events such as UNGA High‑Level week, the Commission on the Status of Women, and the UK’s annual Security Council Presidency.
Rolesand responsibilities
- Support the Visits Coordinator to deliver all organisational and logistical aspects of individual visits, including coordinating travel logistics with ministerial and official private offices, issuing port courtesies for travelling delegations, securing and managing accommodation, and coordinating ground transportation.
- Accompany visitors in‑person, meet and greet visitors on arrival at airports or otherwise, and accompany their departure (this requires occasional work in the evenings or weekends).
- Work with external stakeholders such as hotels, airlines, transport companies and other vendors, including arranging payment of invoices.
- Liaise with local and national security services to arrange security and close protection for visitors where appropriate.
- Arrange and conduct advance visits and recces for VIP, including ministerial delegations, including security services.
- Coordinate and oversee official convoys and hired vehicle arrangements, ensuring timely and appropriate transportation support as required.
- Coordinate and work closely with Corporate Services to ensure strict adherence to UN protocol and security procedures, including the issuance of UN passes and registration of vehicles that are part of the official convoy.
- Lead on hotel contract negotiations and maintain delegation rooming lists to support high‑level visit planning.
- Work with the Finance Team to oversee procurement processes and budget management for large‑scale visits, accommodation and transportation services.
- Support the Events Manager with delivery of UK Mission events, including administrative tasks in the run‑up to and during events across virtual, hybrid and in‑person projects.
- Support wider CVE section activities as required.
- Perform additional tasks as required.
The successful candidate will be required to stand for long periods of time whilst greeting and accompanying visitors, and will be required to travel in terms of escorting visitors to and from the mission.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience- Excellent command of spoken and written English.
- Substantial previous demonstrable work experience in events management or a related role.
- Demonstrable experience in Communications, Events Management, Business Administration or a related field.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to deliver accurate and high‑quality work.
- Effective time management skills, with the ability to plan and prioritise responsibilities.
- Confidence in engaging with colleagues and external contacts at all levels, including senior stakeholders.
- Flexibility and adaptability in response to changing priorities.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and deliver results at pace.
- Excellent collaboration and team‑working skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages and record‑keeping.
- Knowledge of British culture or soft power.
