Position: College Assistant - ASAP Stem and Reading Tutor (2 positions) 500050
Location: New York

Job Title

College Assistant – part‑time, non‑exempt hourly position with a maximum of 1,040 hours per year.

General Duties
  • Perform miscellaneous clerical, administrative, research or other work related to the operation of a college or other unit on a part‑time basis or for a limited duration.
  • Perform routine clerical work: answer and attend telephone calls, maintain records, operate office machines (e.g., copier), sort and distribute mail, issue keys and identity cards, act as messenger.
  • Type letters, memoranda, charts and similar materials.
  • Act as cashier.
  • Assist in statistical or research activities: collect and compile data, code data for computer entry, perform data entry, run computer reports.
  • Perform clerical library work: sort and shelve books, perform data entry into library systems, bind books and periodicals.
  • Assist in instructional programs: tutoring and assisting students in reading, mathematics, speech and hearing therapy, musical accompaniment, and distribute and collect physical education equipment.
  • Enter and maintain departmental records: inventory control records, rosters, directories, schedules.
  • Operate computers, software and other electronic equipment as required.

Compensation

$25.51 per hour.

Qualifications
  • Demonstrated sufficient skills to perform the duties of the assigned tasks.
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree; master’s preferred in a related field.
  • Minimum experience of 2+ years in a tutoring or teaching setting.
  • Excellence in the academic subject to be tutored.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to provide tutoring in both in‑person and virtual formats.
  • Inter‑personal qualities conducive to one‑on‑one and small‑group interactions.
  • Availability of at least 10 hours per week during center hours of operation.
