Location: New York

Pantheon Books is seeking an editorial assistant to provide administrative and editorial support to an Editor and an Editor at Large for a compelling list of fiction, nonfiction and graphic titles.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Evaluating manuscripts, writing reader’s reports, logging submissions and drafting rejection letters.
  • Scheduling, project management and general support for managers.
  • Writing and editing catalog, flap and marketing copy for in‑house and out‑of‑house promotional use.
  • Preparing title information sheets and other marketing materials.
  • Liaising with authors, publishers, agents and the managing editorial department to coordinate and track the production process from finished manuscript to bound book.
  • Creating P&Ls and contract information sheets, collecting sales data and providing competitive title research.
  • Providing general administrative support, including answering phones, taking messages, booking conference rooms, filing expense reports, routing author payments, tracking project due dates, executing mailings and fielding author questions.
Qualifications
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, ability to prioritize and strong follow‑up skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and solve problems creatively.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

This is a Hybrid role. We consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, including the tri‑state area (NJ, CT, PA).

The salary for this position is $51,000. All positions are currently eligible for an annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results.
