Job Summary
The Service Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating workflow in the service department by assigning repair orders to technicians, monitoring progress, and ensuring efficient shop operations. This role is key to maximizing productivity, minimizing downtime, and delivering timely, high-quality service to customers.
Key ResponsibilitiesAssign repair orders to technicians based on skill level, availability, and workload
Monitor shop flow and adjust assignments to maintain efficiency
Track vehicle status and ensure timely completion of work
Communicate with service advisors regarding job status, delays, or changes
Prioritize work based on customer needs, parts availability, and promised delivery times
Review repair orders for accuracy and completeness
Maintain daily production reports and technician efficiency records
Coordinate with parts department to ensure parts availability
Enforce shop policies, safety procedures, and quality standards
Previous experience in an automotive service department preferred
Strong understanding of automotive repair processes and technician skill levels
Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
Clear communication and problem-solving skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Proficiency with dealership management systems preferred
High attention to detail and time management
High school diploma or equivalent required
2+ years of experience in automotive service operations (dispatcher, advisor, or technician preferred)
Ability to stand and walk through the shop for extended periods
Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs
Comfortable working in a shop environment with noise and moving vehicles
