Oversee the evaluation, grading, and quality assurance of colored gemstones for purchase or consignment, ensuring adherence to company quality standards. Leads and develops a team of graders and gemologists to maintain consistent, accurate grading practices while continuously improving processes, methodologies, and equipment. Serves as a cross‑functional liaison between Gemstone Acquisition, Operations, Fulfillment, and internal partners to ensure efficient workflows, informed purchasing decisions, and timely support for product launches and business initiatives.
KeyDuties Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Ensuring HW quality standards are met for all stones that are considered for purchase or consignment.
- Constantly Review the grading process and test equipment requisition to ensure effective grading and equipment are up to HW standards
- Up to date awareness of treatments and filler types and ability to identify
- Manage flow of incoming memos for color grading
- Pass stones that fall within HW color and clarity guidelines
- Manage a team of colored gemstone graders and gemologists
- Provide regular feedback and guidance to the team to ensure all team members are grading to the same standard
- Communicate and liaise with Operations team Manager and Fulfillment team Manager along with other department teams to ensure a steady process flow of grading for goods considered for purchasing
- Effectively communicate with the Gemstone Acquisition Director on day‑to‑day issues related to stone quality and rejection
- Monitor and supervise grading on a daily basis identifying priorities and managing work flow
- Liaise with cross‑functional areas including Product Development, Quality Assurance, Logistics, Inventory Control, Merchandise Planning, and Finance to effectively ensure the needs of the business are met
- Keep in constant communication with the vendor base in order to ensure the required delivery schedules are met for stock orders, new product launches and client orders
- Bachelor’s Degree or above with GIA Graduate Gemologist and minimum of 5+ years’ experience in grading and purchasing Diamonds and Color Stones for high end luxury jewelry
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with Management
- Ability to work in a dynamic, team‑oriented environment
- Self‑motivated with a strong drive for achievement
- Strong organizational and problem solving skills necessary
- Ability to work independently and without direct supervision
