Compensation: $60,400 – $85,000 annually, based on experience
Position Summary
The Buyer is responsible for sourcing seafood products, negotiating pricing and contract terms, and ensuring a consistent supply of high-quality products at competitive costs. This role maintains service levels and product availability for food service distribution while supporting distribution centers and sales teams as needed.
This position functions as a collaborative team member and performs additional duties as assigned to support business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and select seafood vendors based on supply reliability, product quality, innovation, service levels, and market expertise
- Negotiate pricing, order quantities, and long-term contracts to ensure continuous supply and optimal margins
- Maintain strong vendor relationships by resolving invoicing, product, and delivery issues
- Evaluate products based on market application, performance, alternate supply sources, and vendor reputation
- Balance economic order quantities with warehouse efficiency and promotional strategies
- Support distribution centers during emergency situations by securing product and expedited delivery
- Provide product and pricing guidance to the sales team
- Recommend pricing structures based on volume and margin goals
- Perform additional related duties as assigned
Qualifications Required
- High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent experience)
- 2–4 years of purchasing experience within the food service industry
