Fresh Foods Buyer

Are you passionate about shaping the fresh-food mix for hundreds of restaurants and food-service operators? Our client, a nationwide, membership-based food wholesaler with a track record of double-digit growth, is looking for a strategic Fresh Foods Buyer to expand its assortment, sharpen pricing, and keep quality at the center of every deal. In this highly visible role you will own vendor relationships, steer seasonal promotions, and make data-driven buying decisions that keep shelves stocked and customers delighted.

Key Responsibilities

• Source produce, meat, dairy, deli, and bakery items for a multi-unit distribution network, continually evaluating product freshness, safety, and margin performance.
• Analyze historical sales, market trends, weather patterns, and promotional calendars to set demand plans that minimize spoilage while meeting service-level goals.
• Secure the best possible cost-to-serve by leveraging volume commitments, strategic sourcing initiatives, and emerging supplier partnerships.
• Work with merchandising, accounting, warehouse operations, and store teams to launch promotions, resolve billing variances, and ensure flawless inbound flow.
• Track weekly KPIs (turns, distress, on-shelf availability, landed cost) and act quickly on variances to protect margin and availability.
• Conduct post-promo analyses, champion system enhancements, and share best practices that elevate the entire purchasing group.

Qualifications

• 2+ years’ experience in grocery, food-service, or wholesale buying, with accountability for perishable categories.
• Working knowledge of procurement systems, demand-planning, and vendor score-carding; strong Excel or BI skills.
• Proven ability to turn data into decisions and influence cross-functional partners.
• Excellent negotiation, relationship-building, and written/verbal communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, or related field preferred.
