Work Hours:

Monday - Friday; 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

The work involves responsibility for coordinating and overseeing the technical installation and repair work performed by the Technology Services Department located at Washington, Saratoga, Warren, Hamilton, Essex BOCES (WSWHE BOCES), including administrative, budgeting and purchasing duties. The work involves the supervision of technical staff engaged in the installation, repair, and maintenance of a wide variety of technology solutions such as A/V display systems, classroom interactive flat panels, projectors, and physical security system components and associated cabling.

The work also includes the implementation of the budget for the department and monitoring of expenditures, as well as performing purchasing duties and inventory control. This position bears direct responsibility for job scheduling, inventory control, and managing the department's budget. Additionally, the Supervisor is expected to act as a technical resource person for various WSWHE BOCES departments. Work is performed under the general direction of the Director of Technology and Instructional Support Services with the expectation of independent judgment used to carry out the department’s work.

Direct supervision is exercised over all technical personnel and subordinate clerical support staff. Related work as required.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the work of installation, repair, and maintenance of a wide variety of sophisticated audio-visual equipment.
  • Assign work to subordinate technicians and oversee the installation, repair and maintenance of A/V display systems (projectors, interactive flat panel displays, etc.).
  • Oversee installation, maintenance and repair of school district network cabling to facilitate connection of a wide variety of networked devices.
  • Provide input in the development of the budget for the A/V Installation Services Department.
  • Plan for the allocation of budget funds and monitor expenditures.
  • Perform financial reporting activities for the department.
  • Serve as manager of projects assigned to the Department.
  • Maintain inventory records and make purchases, including completion of purchase orders.
  • Advise WSWHE BOCES and component school district personnel regarding services performed by the center such as new installations.
  • Compile all related reports required by the WSWHE BOCES Administration.
  • Supervise the inventory of repair parts, service manuals, diagnostic aids, and test equipment needed to maintain the equipment in operating condition.
Qualifications
  • Possession of an Associate’s Degree in electronics or audio-visual technology, and two (2) years of experience in the repair and maintenance of audio-visual equipment (e.g., interactive flat panel displays, projectors, etc.), OR
  • High school graduation or possession of a GED, and four (4) years of experience in the repair and maintenance of audio-visual equipment (e.g., interactive flat panel displays, projectors, etc.).

Eligibility

Vacancies are filled by a certified list provided by Washington County Civil Service. If no certified list is available, candidates appointed to this position will serve in a provisional appointment in accordance with New York State Civil Service Law. The candidate must successfully complete a competitive examination and be eligible for appointment in accordance with Civil Service Law and the Civil Service Rules for Washington County to obtain a permanent appointment.
