Position Overview
Reporting to the PMSO, the Director, Special Projects & Internal Communications supports critical organizational work through a portfolio that includes internal corporate communications, governance operations, and the development and oversight of the organization’s intranet (60%). In addition, the DSPIC will step into high‑priority cross‑functional initiatives and special projects as needed (40%). The role is full‑time, hybrid, requiring at least three in‑person days per week from the KIPP NYC Midtown Manhattan office and occasional travel to campuses across the city.
Dutiesand Responsibilities Internal Communications
- Lead creation, planning, and execution of the internal communications function, including development of an editorial calendar aligned to the academic year.
- Manage workflows and partner with Marketing & Communications to ensure content aligns with KIPP NYC brand standards.
- Collaborate with HR, IT, Operations, and other leaders to publish timely internal updates.
- Translate organizational priorities into clear internal communications and supporting materials for staff audiences.
- Project‑manage implementation of the intranet platform, including planning, rollout, adoption, and ongoing operation.
- Lead non‑technical implementation work to operationalize the platform, including content organization protocols, user support, and training.
- Establish publishing practices, maintenance workflows, and coordination processes to keep the intranet current and useful.
- Support change management and adoption efforts, ensuring staff engagement and sustained utilization.
- Monitor engagement, adoption, and usage metrics to inform continuous improvement.
- Build and maintain operational systems and documentation processes that support coordinated governance and reliable management of board‑related information.
- Manage preparation, organization, archival, and distribution of governance materials, including meeting minutes, resolutions, agendas, and supporting documents.
- Coordinate filing, publication, and maintenance of governance records across internal systems and external platforms.
- 5+ years of progressively complex project management, internal communications, or operational execution experience in dynamic environments; project management certification is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multi‑stakeholder initiatives from planning through execution; proficiency with Asana (required).
- Strong communication skills, including building dynamic slide decks, drafting communications, and effective graphic design.
- Experience with web‑based platforms, content management systems, intranets, collaboration tools, or employee portals preferred.
- Excellent presentation, public speaking, and meeting facilitation skills.
- Strong judgment, professionalism, and discretion managing sensitive information.
- Energized by creating and championing systems that bring structure and clarity to ambiguity.
- Builds strong, collaborative relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Exhibits core character traits: zest, grit, hope, social intelligence, gratitude, and sense of humor.
- Bachelor’s degree is required.
- Position is full‑time, in‑person, based in New York City; requires travel to schools.
- Employees relocating outside a commutable distance or outside New York State may be subject to employment review.
Salaries range from $115,360 to $144,200, benchmarked by role level, function, experience, and equity considerations.
