Location: New York

This paid internship is designed to give you a comprehensive, hands‑on experience and exposure to Sony and the Sony affiliate audio business to build professional skills. You'll report directly to a Sony Audio Institute Staff member, gaining mentorship and guidance as you support a wide range of departmental activities. Interns will develop skills in various areas which may include: marketing and content creation for the Sony Audio Institute, engaging with creators and tech/studio related activities, supporting events and activations, from planning to content capture, and conducting and/or participating in research to support various projects.

Sony requires each student selected to participate in the Internship Program to sign a confidential information and inventions assignment agreement prior to each Intern’s start date for participation in the Internship Program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Logistical Support: Assisting with the planning and execution of workshops, trainings (including Virtual Mixing Environment intake/measurements), focus groups, and other events. This includes coordinating key logistical elements like reserving meeting spaces, building out the schedules of events or presentations, managing catering, supporting tech integration with new products for student/faculty use.
  • Administrative Tasks: Contributing to the day‑to‑day operations of the department, which may involve data entry, survey administration, and managing event information.
  • Technical Support: Providing support for both virtual and in‑person events and projects, including assisting with/coordinating audio/visual needs and general technical operations as needed by the Institute.
  • Marketing & Communications: Taking on a secondary role in our marketing efforts. This could include creating promotional content, managing social media accounts, helping with photography and videography, and updating our website and newsletters.

Throughout the internship, you will develop a diverse skill set that is highly valued in both the audio and events industries.

  • Hands‑on

    Experience:

    You'll gain practical experience in event management, from initial planning to final execution.
  • Technical Proficiency: You'll become familiar with the VME technology and be able to support its implementation.
  • Project Management

    Skills:

    By contributing to both short- and long-term planning, you'll learn how to manage and coordinate various aspects of a project simultaneously.
  • Professional Communication: You'll hone your communication skills through regular meetings with your Program Manager and interactions with team members and event participants.

You will be expected to meet with the Program Manager on a weekly basis to discuss your progress, goals, and any challenges you may encounter. Please note that some evening and weekend work may be required to support key events.

Qualifications

1. Must be a Steinhardt Music Business or Music Technology student in good standing with at least a 3.0 GPA.

2. Must be a sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student with an interest in the music and audio business and technology.

3. Flexible upbeat team player with a strong work ethic.

4. Commit to a maximum 20 hour work week (up to 30 hours per week during the summer).

5. Talented problem solver, able to react quickly and maintain composure under pressure. Ability to exercise good independent judgment, working with multiple stakeholders.

6. Highly proficient at managing multiple priorities. Superior organizational skills and flawless attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills. Ability to articulate ideas.

7. Solid working knowledge/proficiency of Google Suite and/or Microsoft Suite, Zoom. Adobe Suite and Canva are a plus.

8. Possess knowledge of marketing techniques and social media platforms.

9. Experience in/ability to discreetly handle confidential information preferred.

10. Available to work starting September 2025 until end of the fall semester (with the potential for an extension into the spring semester).

Federal Work-Study is not required for this role, unless specifically stated within the job description. If you are eligible to receive Federal Work-Study funds, your eligibility status will be disclosed to the hiring manager to ensure proper processing if hired.

Salary Transparency Law:
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly base salary range for student employment positions is $16.50-$18 per hour for undergraduate students and $30 per hour for graduate students. The hourly rate for graduate employees is based on the collective bargaining agreement with Local 2110.
