About The Office

The Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice (MOCJ) advises the Mayor of the City of New York on criminal justice policy. MOCJ develops and implements strategies, with partners inside and outside government, to reduce crime and incarceration and to promote fairness and legitimacy. MOCJ works with law enforcement, city agencies, non‑profits, foundations, and others to implement data‑driven strategies that address current crime conditions, prevent offending, and build strong neighborhoods that ensure enduring safety.

The Role

Under the supervision of the Chief Operating Officer, the Operations Manager will support agency‑wide operational coordination, workflow management, project tracking, and executive follow‑through across the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice. The Operations Manager will serve as a key support role within the Operations portfolio, helping translate executive priorities into clear action steps, timelines, communications, and deliverables. This position will support the Chief Operating Officer in maintaining visibility across operational work streams and ensuring that assignments, decisions, and follow‑up items move forward efficiently.

Responsibilities
  • Support the Chief Operating Officer in managing agency‑wide operational priorities, assignments, deadlines, and follow‑up items
  • Prepare updates, summaries, and briefing materials for the Chief Operating Officer and agency leadership
  • Coordinate across internal teams to support timely completion of assigned tasks and operational priorities
  • Assist in monitoring compliance with internal procedures, deadlines, and documentation requirements
  • Serve as backup to the Operations Director by monitoring open action items, following up with responsible parties, and helping ensure continuity of work
  • Support Operations Director follow‑up related to facilities, fleet, mailroom, records retention, travel coordination, and other agency operational areas
  • Support development and maintenance of standard operating procedures, internal guidance, workflow documents, and process maps
  • Support calendar coordination, executive task management, and administrative follow‑up for the Chief Operating Officer’s operational portfolio
  • Ensure that action items from meetings are documented, assigned, tracked, and followed through to completion
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community‑centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community‑centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience supporting project management, executive operations, or cross‑functional coordination in a fast‑paced office environment. Ability to manage timelines, track deliverables, follow up on outstanding items, and organize competing priorities. Strong attention to detail and ability to use project management tools, spreadsheets, shared trackers, or workflow systems to monitor progress. Demonstrated ability to move work forward independently, anticipate needs, identify obstacles, and keep leadership informed of key developments.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
