Facilities & Safety Coordinator

Reports To: VP of Facilities Operations

Position Type: Exempt

Position Summary

The Facilities & Safety Coordinator is a field-based, hands‑on role that combines proactive health and safety oversight with direct facilities maintenance responsibility across Goodwill NYNJ locations in New York and New Jersey. This position conducts safety and facility assessments, performs minor and preventive repairs across all core building systems, coordinates safety and compliance training (including administration of training and compliance‑tracking systems), supports emergency preparedness, and oversees fleet safety programs.

The Coordinator also plays a key administrative and project management role — maintaining accurate records, preparing regular reports, tracking work orders and vendor documentation, and coordinating cross‑functional projects from start to finish. The Coordinator partners closely with store, mission, Facilities, Operations, HR, and Asset Protection leadership to ensure workplaces are safe, compliant, well‑maintained, and operationally ready, visiting assigned facilities on a recurring schedule to perform routine maintenance, safety checks, and follow‑up corrective work.

Health

& Safety
  • Conduct routine health and safety inspections and facility assessments across Goodwill NYNJ locations.
  • Identify workplace hazards, document findings, and coordinate corrective actions; perform follow‑up inspections to verify completion.
  • Assist with incident investigations, documentation, and root cause analysis.
  • Maintain safety inspection records, compliance documentation, and reporting metrics , ensuring information is accurate, current, and audit‑ready.
  • Support OSHA compliance initiatives and organizational safety programs.
  • Provide field coaching and guidance to employees and leadership regarding safe work practices.
  • Coordinate and facilitate emergency evacuation, fire, severe weather, and other emergency response drills.
  • Inspect emergency equipment, including fire extinguishers, first aid kits, AEDs, eyewash stations, and other safety supplies.
  • Assist locations with maintaining Emergency Action Plans and emergency preparedness documentation.
  • Support emergency response efforts during workplace incidents and facility disruptions.
  • Document drill outcomes and recommend improvements to emergency response procedures.
Training, Compliance & Administration
  • Deliver safety orientation and ongoing safety training to employees and supervisors.
  • Administer training and compliance‑tracking systems , including assignment management, completion tracking, reporting, and compliance follow‑up.
  • Maintain employee training records, certifications, and compliance documentation.
  • Develop and coordinate training schedules and project timelines to ensure required safety programs are completed on time.
  • Train and certify employees on powered equipment, including pallet jacks, floor scrubbers, compactors, balers, and other operational equipment.
  • Reinforce safe work practices through coaching, field observations, and employee engagement.
  • Prepare regular compliance and training reports , monitoring completion rates, identifying gaps, and recommending corrective action.
Fleet Safety & Training
  • Oversee fleet safety training programs, including driver qualification requirements and safe vehicle operation practices.
  • Coordinate fleet‑related training, documentation, and compliance tracking, including administration of the relevant training and tracking systems.
