The Ultimate Team Player
The Learning Experience of Astoria is seeking experienced, dependable, and adaptable Part‑Time Floating Assistant Teachers to support multiple classrooms across our center.
A Floating Assistant is a vital part of our team. This is not a “substitute” role – it is a professional position requiring confidence, flexibility, and strong classroom skills.
You will move between classrooms (Infants through Preschool) based on daily needs. This requires someone who:
- Is comfortable working with all age groups
- Can quickly adjust to different classroom routines
- Jumps in immediately and supports without hesitation
- Helps children feel safe and comfortable – even when faces change
- Thrives in a fast‑paced, structured environment
If you prefer having the exact same routine every day, this role may not be the right fit. If you are adaptable, proactive, and confident across age groups – we would love to meet you.
Experience Requirement (Mandatory)- Minimum 3 years of experience working in a licensed daycare center
- Experience working with multiple age groups (infants, toddlers, preschool)
- Strong understanding of classroom management and daily structure
Only candidates with verifiable daycare experience will be considered.
Key Qualities We Are Looking For- ✔️ Consistently punctual and reliable
- ✔️ Flexible and comfortable with daily changes
- ✔️ Calm and nurturing with infants, energetic and engaging with older children
- ✔️ Positive team contributor
- ✔️ Able to follow classroom leadership and center policies
- ✔️ Strong understanding of child development and early learning practices
- Supporting Lead Teachers in various classrooms throughout the day
- Assisting with routines (diapering, feeding, toileting, transitions, etc.)
- Maintaining safety, supervision, and licensing compliance at all times
- Engaging children in developmentally appropriate activities
- Helping maintain a clean, organized environment
- Providing stability and warmth – even when rotating between rooms
Floating Assistants play a critical role in maintaining ratios, structure, and consistency. Children thrive when adults are dependable and confident – and that is what we expect from our team.
Who Will Thrive in This Role?Someone who:
- Is adaptable and solution‑oriented
- Can walk into any classroom and immediately contribute
- Understands that early childhood stability matters – even in flexible roles
- Takes professionalism and punctuality seriously
- Loves being part of a strong, supportive team
- Competitive hourly rate: $16–$18 per hour
- Structured, professional work environment
- Supportive leadership team
- Opportunity to work with multiple age groups and expand your skill set
