Job SummaryThe Division Leader serving as the Counselor‑in‑Training Program Leader is responsible for overseeing the daily operation, supervision, and development of our teen training program. This role supports emerging leaders by providing structured guidance, leadership training, and consistent feedback while ensuring CITs uphold camp standards of professionalism, safety, and respect. The Counselor‑in‑Training Program Leader plays a critical role in developing BCNY’s future camp staff pipeline.
This position reports to the Camp Program Director and works closely with camp leadership.
Division Leaders work as part of a collaborative leadership team and are expected to partner closely with fellow Division Leaders across cabins, activities, and the Counselor‑in‑Training program. This role requires consistent communication, shared problem‑solving, mutual support, and collective responsibility for camper safety, staff development, and overall camp operations.
Mandatory attendance at Admin Staff Training (June 8–18, 2026) and General Staff Training (June 22–July 3, 2026) is required.
ResponsibilitiesCounselors‑in‑Training Supervision, Leadership, and Development
Provide daily supervision, mentorship, and guidance to all assigned Counselors‑in‑Training (approximately eight total), ensuring clarity around roles, expectations, schedules, and professional conduct.
Facilitate structured leadership development programming for Counselors‑in‑Training, with support from the Associate Camp Director and members of the Senior Leadership Team.
Lead daily check‑ins and scheduled debriefs to reinforce expectations, review assignments, and support ongoing development.
Model effective behavior management practices through calm, consistent, and developmentally appropriate responses to camper behavior.
Programming Integration and Operational Coordination
Coordinate daily Counselors‑in‑Training assignments across activity areas, cabins, meals, transitions, and camp‑wide needs in collaboration with Division Leaders and camp leadership.
Ensure Counselors‑in‑Training actively support programming through setup, instruction assistance, supervision, cleanup, and transitions.
Collaborate with Activity Counselor Division Leaders to align placement with program needs and supervision requirements.
Documentation and Evaluation
Address minor behavior or performance concerns through direct coaching and corrective feedback.
Document performance, growth, and concerns using established tracking tools and evaluation forms.
