Construction Inspector – Sewer / Infrastructure (NYCDDC)
Liriano & Associates Engineering Consulting Services, PLLC is seeking an experienced Construction Inspector with proven experience inspecting distribution water main, sewer, and related NYC infrastructure work under NYCDDC contracts
. The Inspector will support the Resident Engineer and project team in administering and inspecting construction operations, ensuring full compliance with contract documents, NYCDEP and NYCDDC standards, and safety regulations.
- Perform daily field inspection of distribution water main, sewer, roadway, utility, and related infrastructure construction activities.
- Inspect water main installation, replacement, connections, valves, hydrants, fittings, chambers, and appurtenances.
- Inspect sewer work, including pipe installation, manholes, catch basins, drainage structures, connections, trenching, bedding, backfill, and restoration.
- Verify contractor work for compliance with plans, specifications, permits, approved shop drawings, and NYCDDC / NYCDEP requirements.
- Monitor excavation, sheeting, trench safety, dewatering, utility support, backfill, compaction, temporary pavement, and final restoration activities.
- Maintain detailed daily inspection reports, including labor, equipment, materials, quantities, photographs, field measurements, and work progress.
- Verify installed quantities and assist with documentation for contractor payment requisitions.
- Review contractor work for reasonableness and report discrepancies or non-conforming work to the Resident Engineer.
- Identify potential extra work, field issues, differing site conditions, and delays; notify the Resident Engineer and assist with supporting documentation.
- Monitor Maintenance and Protection of Traffic, pedestrian safety, environmental protection, erosion control, and public safety measures.
- Coordinate field activities with the Resident Engineer, Assistant Resident Engineer, contractor staff, utility companies, NYCDEP, NYCDOT, NYCDDC, and other involved agencies.
- Assist in reviewing field sketches, shop drawings, utility mark-outs, test results, and inspection records.
- Support water main shutdowns, service connections, pressure testing, disinfection, chlorination, sampling, and related NYCDEP coordination.
- Verify proper restoration of sidewalks, curbs, roadway surfaces, street hardware, and disturbed areas.
- Prepare and maintain project documentation in accordance with NYCDDC “Standard Records” and project filing protocols.
- Minimum 5 years of experience inspecting NYC infrastructure projects, including distribution water main, sewer, roadway, or utility work
. - Prior experience on NYCDDC projects
. - Strong understanding of water main and sewer construction methods, utility coordination, excavation, trenching, backfill, compaction, and restoration.
- Working knowledge of NYCDDC, NYCDEP, and NYCDOT standards, specifications, permits, and field procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret contract drawings, specifications, shop drawings, utility plans, and field sketches.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Familiarity with project management/document control systems such as PIMS, PDMS, or similar platforms preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- OSHA 10-Hour or OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Training required.
