Skilled Laborer / Heavy Equipment Operator
This role combines skilled labor and heavy equipment operation to support commercial site development projects. You will operate excavators and dozers to perform grading and trench work, assist with general civil construction tasks, and contribute to safe, efficient completion of site work across the Rochester area.
Responsibilities- Operate heavy equipment such as excavators and dozers to perform grading, trenching, and other earthwork activities on commercial site work projects.
- Support all phases of site development, including excavation, back filling, compaction, and final grading in accordance with project plans and specifications.
- Work as part of a field crew of approximately 3–5 people, coordinating tasks and communicating clearly to maintain productivity and safety.
- Assist with general civil construction and site work activities, including setting up work areas, moving materials, and maintaining a clean and organized job site.
- Use GPS-enabled equipment when applicable to achieve accurate grades and alignments (experience with GPS machines is a plus).
- Follow all OSHA and company safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment and participation in safety meetings.
- Inspect equipment before use, report any issues promptly, and help maintain equipment in good working condition.
- Adapt to varying site conditions and project requirements while maintaining a strong focus on quality and efficiency.
- Arrive on time to job sites with reliable transportation and be prepared to work scheduled shifts and overtime during busy periods.
- At least 3 years of heavy equipment operation experience, including excavators and dozers.
- Hands-on experience in civil construction, site work, and commercial site development.
- Proficiency in heavy equipment operation for grading and trench work.
- OSHA 10 certification.
- Reliable transportation to and from commercial job sites.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a crew of 3–5 people.
- Strong awareness of job site safety practices and procedures.
- Ability to follow directions, read and understand basic site plans, and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with GPS machine control systems for grading and trench work.
- Experience as a civil laborer supporting heavy equipment operations.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Broad exposure to site construction and civil construction projects.
- Willingness to take on both equipment operation and hands-on labor tasks as needed.

You will work on commercial site work job sites, primarily focused on civil construction and site development projects. Typical hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with overtime available during the busy season. Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions and involves operating heavy equipment and performing physical labor. You will be part of a crew of 3–5 people, collaborating closely to complete grading, trenching, and other site work tasks safely and efficiently.
Standard construction-site attire and appropriate personal protective equipment are required at all times.
This is a Permanent position based out of Ontario, NY.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
