Location: New York
Azar Design Co., a multidisciplinary architecture, engineering, surveying, environmental, and construction management firm with over 45 years of experience, is seeking Senior and Junior Superintendents with K-12 school construction experience to support active projects throughout the NYC area. Successful candidates will oversee daily field operations, coordinate subcontractors, maintain quality and safety standards, and support project delivery from construction through closeout. Junior Superintendents will work closely with the Project Superintendent and Project Management team while gaining valuable field leadership experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and oversee all on-site construction activities for K-12 educational projects.
- Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, consultants, and project stakeholders to ensure schedule and budget objectives are met.
- Conduct daily site inspections to monitor quality, safety, and compliance with project specifications.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal building codes, regulations, and safety standards.
- Lead site meetings and maintain effective communication with owners, architects, engineers, and contractors.
- Review project schedules and proactively identify and resolve construction challenges.
- Monitor project documentation, field reports, punch lists, and closeout activities.
- Enforce site safety programs and maintain a safe working environment for all personnel.
- Assist the Superintendent with the day‑to‑day management of on-site construction activities.
- Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and field personnel to ensure project milestones are achieved.
- Conduct site walks and inspections to monitor quality, safety, and compliance with project requirements.
- Assist with maintaining project schedules, daily reports, and field documentation.
- Support coordination with school administrators, consultants, architects, engineers, and project stakeholders.
- Monitor project progress and identify potential issues before they impact schedule or budget.
- Assist with punch list completion and project closeout activities.
- Promote and enforce site safety requirements and company policies.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 10+ years of construction experience with significant K-12 school project experience
- Proven experience serving as a Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Construction Manager, or similar leadership role
- Strong knowledge of building codes, construction regulations, and inspection procedures
- Experience managing occupied facilities, phased construction, and school renovation projects preferred
- Demonstrated leadership and personnel management experience supervising field staff, subcontractors, and project teams
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and contracts
- 4-6 years of construction experience, preferably within K-12, higher education, public sector, or commercial construction
- Experience supporting Superintendents, Construction Managers, or Project Managers on active construction projects
- Knowledge of construction methods, scheduling, quality control, and safety procedures
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project schedules
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
- Experience working in occupied facilities or phased construction environments is a plus
Certifications
OSHA 30‑Hour/10‑ Hour Certification
SST Card (if applicable)
First Aid / CPR Certification
NICET, ICC, or Building Inspector Certifications a plus
Construction Management coursework or degree preferred
