The General Superintendent is responsible for overseeing field operations for commercial construction projects involving stone, masonry, waterproofing, facade systems, exterior envelope work, restoration, and related specialty scopes. This role manages superintendents, foremen, field crews, subcontractors, manpower planning, safety, quality control, scheduling, production, logistics, and coordination with project management teams.
The ideal candidate has strong commercial construction experience, deep knowledge of exterior building envelope systems, and the ability to lead multiple projects or large‑scale field operations from mobilization through closeout.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee daily field operations for commercial stone, masonry, waterproofing, facade, and exterior envelope projects.
- Manage superintendents, foremen, field crews, subcontractors, vendors, and labor resources across active projects.
- Coordinate manpower, materials, equipment, deliveries, access, staging, and site logistics to maintain project schedules.
- Review project plans, specifications, shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, change orders, and construction documents to ensure field execution aligns with contract requirements.
- Monitor project progress, productivity, quality, safety, and cost performance.
- Work closely with project managers, owners, general contractors, architects, engineers, consultants, and inspectors to resolve field issues.
- Lead field planning meetings, coordination meetings, toolbox talks, safety meetings, and project progress reviews.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with OSHA standards, company safety policies, site‑specific safety plans, and applicable building codes.
- Inspect ongoing work for quality, accuracy, durability, and conformance with specifications, manufacturer requirements, and industry standards.
- Identify potential schedule impacts, labor shortages, material delays, design conflicts, and field coordination issues before they affect project performance.
- Support estimating and project management teams with constructability reviews, production planning, sequencing, labor budgets, and field input.
- Develop and maintain strong communication between field leadership and office management.
- Oversee installation and coordination of masonry, stone veneer, dimensional stone, brick, block, CMU, terra cotta, precast elements, waterproofing membranes, air barriers, sealants, flashing, facade panels, rainscreen systems, restoration work, and related exterior systems.
- Ensure proper layout, sequencing, substrate preparation, anchoring, waterproofing integration, sealant installation, and envelope continuity.
- Manage punch list completion, inspections, project closeout, and final turnover.
- Train, mentor, and develop field supervisors, foremen, and crew leaders.
- Promote a culture of accountability, safety, quality craftsmanship, teamwork, and professional field leadership.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive Field leadership.
- Commercial field construction experience, with significant experience in masonry, stone, waterproofing, facade, exterior envelope, or restoration work.
- Prior experience as a Superintendent, General Superintendent, Field Operations Manager, or Senior Field Supervisor.
- Strong knowledge of commercial masonry, stone installation, waterproofing systems, facade assemblies, flashing, sealants, air/vapor barriers, restoration, and exterior wall systems.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, shop drawings, details, schedules, and project documents.
- Strong understanding of project sequencing, field logistics, manpower planning, safety compliance, and quality control.
- Experience managing multiple crews, foremen, subcontractors, and active job sites.
- Ability to coordinate with general contractors, project managers, architects, engineers, consultants, inspectors, and ownership teams.
