Arcadis is seeking a Construction Safety Specialist to work in the NY/NJ area. As a Construction Safety Specialist, you will perform technical and administrative duties essential to ensure that contractors conduct activities in compliance with all Federal, State and Local fire and safety regulations and standards, thereby eliminating hazardous practices and conditions and ensuring fire safety programs and standards are properly adhered to at the Port Authority and Leaseholder construction sites.

accountabilities
  • Review contracts, drawings, and project-related documentation to ensure adherence.
  • Ensure contractors are in compliance with OSHA, FDNY, NYCDOB, Local laws and all applicable regulations.
  • Review contractor Health and Safety Plan submittals.
  • Audit work operations and construction processes to ensure they conform to Health & Safety Programs, Job Hazard Analysis, Contract drawings, approved plans and all applicable safety policies.
  • Monitor work conditions, operations, practices, construction equipment and processes to evaluate effectiveness, adherence with accepted programs, required regulations, and alignment with all applicable safety policies.
  • Provide Port Authority with daily reports to include photos and detailed account of safety observations, findings, safety deficiencies, and corrective measures.
  • Conduct Accident, Incident and near miss investigations, root cause analysis and make recommendations to prevent recurrences.
  • Provide Port Authority with Preliminary Information Reports on accident and incident investigation information.
  • Interact & collaborate with Port Authority Resident Engineers, Agency Safety Representatives, Integrity Monitors, Stakeholders, insurance brokers, and affiliated representatives.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction safety including conducting investigations and accident prevention at construction sites or related fields.
  • Valid NYC DOB Site Safety Supervisor Card (SST).
  • OSHA 30-hour construction safety certificate.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management skills.
  • Experience on Major Capital Construction projects including heavy civil infrastructure construction.
  • Knowledge of Construction Safety and regulations including OSHA 1926 Standards, NYC DOB Code, FDNY, Local laws including DOT, DEP and other applicable regulatory agencies.
  • Familiarity with National Fire Codes, NFPA standards, NYC and NJ Fire Codes, Rules of the City of NY and FDNY operations and procedures.
  • Ability to evaluate contractor construction safety and fire safety programs and make technical recommendations based upon findings.
  • Knowledge of hazard recognition and assessment, incident and accident investigation and reporting, root cause analysis and Job Hazard Analysis.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with OSHA and FDNY inspectors, construction inspectors, contractors, management, safety professionals, workers and stakeholders.
  • Proficient with computer safety software for managing and tracking project hazards, incidents, and program documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CHST certification or other recognized construction safety credential.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Construction Management, or a safety related field from an accredited institution.
  • Experience with OCIP and CCIP projects.
  • Experience on other Port Authority projects.
