Position Summary
The associate project manager (APM) is responsible for planning, designing, managing, and supervising facility construction, renovation, maintenance, and rehabilitation projects. The role provides technical leadership for civil/mechanical engineering initiatives, oversees project execution from concept through construction, ensures compliance with applicable codes and standards, and coordinates with contractors, consultants, other agencies and internal stakeholders to deliver safe, reliable, and cost‑effective project management.

Reporting Manager:
Senior Director
- Lead and supervise in‑house teams, contracted vendors and capital project contractors in planning, construction and maintenance of facility and infrastructure projects, including bus depots, parking facilities and related mechanical and civil disciplines.
- Prepare and review engineering designs, cost estimates, technical reports, specifications and contract documents; conduct site inspections and field surveys to verify compliance with codes, standards and project requirements.
- Evaluate equipment and materials, perform engineering analysis, support renovation and retrofit projects, and coordinate with architects, contractors, consultants and regulatory agencies to ensure successful project delivery while maintaining safety, quality and operational objectives.
- Coordinate with architects, contractors and multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout project development and construction.
One of the following:
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, landscape architecture, architectural technology, construction, construction management, construction technology, sustainable design, urban planning, urban studies, city planning, transportation planning, business administration or public administration, plus one year of full‑time project‑management experience on projects valued $1,000,000 or more.
- A four‑year high school diploma or equivalent, plus five years of experience as described above.
- A four‑year high school diploma or equivalent plus any combination of college or university education and experience to equal five years of education and experience.
Additional experience credits may be awarded for college coursework, master’s degrees or professional licenses such as Professional Engineer, Registered Architect or Registered Landscape Architect.
Qualification RequirementsExperience primarily of a design nature is not acceptable toward meeting the qualification requirements.
Assignment Levels- Level II: At least one additional year of supervisory experience or one year as project manager for a large or complex construction project.
- Level III: At least two additional years of supervisory experience or two years as project manager for a large or complex construction project.
- Knowledge of CADD (Micro Station and/or AutoCAD), office suite, Adobe Acrobat.
- Knowledge of NYCT DOB operating policies and procedures.
- Mechanical and/or Civil background preferred.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive company vehicles.
