Mechanical Estimator Position

The Mechanical Estimator is responsible for delivering accurate, competitive cost estimates for a range of mechanical construction projects, including HVAC, plumbing, process piping, and related systems. This role plays a critical part in preconstruction by analyzing project documentation, performing detailed quantity takeoffs, and developing pricing aligned with company standards and client requirements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and able to collaborate cross-functionally to ensure timely, complete, and competitive bid submissions.

• Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, bid documents, and addenda
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for HVAC, plumbing, piping, and mechanical equipment
• Develop comprehensive cost estimates including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors
• Utilize estimating software and internal databases to generate accurate cost proposals
• Maintain up-to-date pricing for labor rates, materials, and vendor/subcontractor costs

• Prepare complete, well-organized bid packages including scope assumptions and clarifications
• Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing to ensure competitiveness
• Ensure estimates align with all project requirements and specifications
• Submit accurate bids within strict deadlines
• Participate in value engineering efforts to optimize cost, efficiency, and constructability

• Partner with project managers, engineers, and operations teams during preconstruction
• Participate in bid reviews and provide insight into pricing, scope, and risk
• Support project handoff to operations following award
• Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, vendors, and suppliers

• Identify scope gaps, inconsistencies, and potential risks in project documents
• Clearly document assumptions, exclusions, and clarifications within each estimate
• Maintain organized estimating files and historical cost data for future use

• Contribute to improvements in estimating tools, processes, and workflows
• Assist with development of standardized templates and best practices
• Stay current on industry trends, materials, codes, and construction methods

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (preferred), or equivalent experience
• 3-7+ years of experience in mechanical estimating or related construction role
• Experience with process mechanical projects is a plus

• Proficiency with estimating tools such as Trimble, Quick Pen, Bluebeam, or similar
• Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
• Solid understanding of HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems
• Knowledge of labor productivity, cost control, and budgeting

• Strong analytical and mathematical abilities
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Problem-solving mindset focused on cost efficiency and constructability

• Primarily office-based with occasional site visits
• Fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent bids and deadlines
