The NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC), Division of Safety & Site Support, is seeking a Chief of Code Compliance to lead the Code Compliance Unit within the Office of Construction Safety. The selected candidate will oversee the implementation and advancement of DDC's construction safety programs, including comprehensive reviews of Site Safety Plans (SSPs) for DDC capital construction projects, pre-award contractor safety evaluations, maintenance of construction safety records, and enforcement of DDC construction safety requirements in accordance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
The Chief will supervise Safety Code Compliance Auditors and oversee the preparation of safety reports, advisories, SSP templates, presentations, and operating procedures. Responsibilities will also include attending project meetings to ensure compliance with safety requirements; conducting safety audits; preparing and updating pre-construction meeting materials; developing and delivering safety training for project staff, contractors, and consultants; reviewing SSPs and safety documentation for high-priority and critical projects;
and communicating findings and recommendations to project teams and contractors. The position will provide direct support to the Deputy Director of Construction Safety by addressing safety-related issues, developing recommendations for program improvements, implementing new safety initiatives, and maintaining DDC's SSP web-based application. This position plays a critical role in strengthening construction safety practices, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting the safe and successful delivery of DDC's capital construction program.
