Mehrshid Engineering, PLLC is seeking an experienced Assistant Resident Engineer (ARE) for a full-time, on-site assignment at John
F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).
The anticipated start date is September 2026
, with an anticipated duration of two years
.
The Assistant Resident Engineer will support the Resident Engineer in the day-to-day construction management and administration of assigned projects. The work may include taxiway and runway paving and lighting systems, building improvements, civil site work, utility modifications and upgrades, maintenance and protection of traffic, and related airport infrastructure.
Key responsibilities include:
- Act as the day-to-day Construction Manager for assigned projects and report directly to the Resident Engineer.
- Coordinate with JFK Airport Facility, operations personnel, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
- Review and interpret contract drawings, specifications, and other contract documents.
- Assist with contract administration and resolution of contractor issues and disputes.
- Supervise and mentor field inspection staff and ensure construction activities are properly monitored and documented.
- Review contractor submittals and Requests for Information (RFIs).
- Review and approve daily field inspection reports and narratives.
- Track classified work items, time-and-material (T&M) tickets, and other project records.
- Prepare Extra Work Orders, Net Cost Change Orders, Field Ordered Work, and associated cost estimates.
- Review contractor payment applications for accuracy and contract compliance.
- Assist with monthly project progress and financial reporting.
- Proactively identify and communicate potential project risks, construction issues, and schedule impacts.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience managing construction projects of varying size, scope, and complexity, including projects ranging from $500,000 to $5 million or greater and involving multiple crews and shift operations.
- Strong knowledge of construction management practices, contract administration, project documentation, and coordination with multiple stakeholders.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a JFK Airport Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge
. - OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification required, with training in fall protection, Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT), confined space entry, and permit-required confined space entry.
- Proficiency with eBuilder and Microsoft Office Suite
, including Word, Excel, and Outlook. - Ability to support non-standard work hours, including potential night and weekend shifts
, and extended hours as project needs require.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Structural Steel Bolting Inspector certification.
- Work Zone Safety certifications.
