An incumbent to a position in this class performs inspections of all construction and repair work on the city's sewer system. Work involves monitoring outside contractors and employees of the Sewer Authority to make certain work is performed in accordance with contract plans and specifications. Immediate supervision is received from the Chief Sewer Construction Inspector, however, incumbent exercises independent judgment in work stoppage if not in accordance with contract documents.
Work is reviewed by the supervisor from daily reports submitted by the Sewer Construction Inspector. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
- receivers, connections, catch basins, tunnel work, excavations, shoring, bracing, chambers, weirs, etc.;
- lines, grades and measurements and pipe sizes;
- Takes samples of concrete for testing;
- Prepares sketches of troublesome construction;
- submits reports of same;
- Checks and reports on any utility obstructions;
- may confer with representatives from utility companies;
- Maintains records and reports concerning inspection work including material used and labor hours consumed;
- Drives to and from work sites;
- Performs related work as required.
Continuous and permanent status in any city department in one of the following:
- (A) Sewer Maintenance Supervisor I for one year;
- (B) Engineering Aide or Sewer Construction Worker for two years.
NOTE:
Applicants must have three (3) years of full-time construction activities; one year of which must have been in water or sewer excavation or underground pipeline work, repair or inspection.
- (A) Associates Degree from an accredited college, university or technical institute in Civil or Construction Technology and one year of full time construction activities where work involved water or sewer excavation or underground pipeline work, repair or inspection.
- OR
- (B) Graduation from High School, GED or Equivalency Diploma and three years of full time construction activities; one year of which must have been involved in water or sewer excavation or underground pipeline work, repair or inspection;
- OR
- (C) an equivalent combination as defined within the limits of A and
B.
Masters or Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering may be substituted for the above education and experience.
Special RequirementPossession of a current NYS Driver's License which must be presented at time of appointment and must be maintained during employment.

- Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
