Our client is seeking a Fire Alarm Engineer / Inspector to support fire alarm system design, code compliance reviews, field inspections, punch list development, client coordination, and FDNY inspection support across high-end, large-scale projects in the New York City metro area. The ideal candidate will bring knowledge of fire code and exposure to construction project management, construction inspection, fire alarm systems, fire protection, or building code compliance. - Review fire alarm system designs and documentation for compliance with applicable building and fire code requirements.
- Conduct field inspections and pre-inspections on active construction sites throughout the NYC metro area.
- Identify deficiencies, document findings, and develop clear punch lists for project stakeholders.
- Support coordination with clients, contractors, project managers, site managers, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction, including FDNY-related inspections.
- Use technical knowledge of the 2022 NYC Building Code to evaluate project conditions and support code-compliant outcomes.
- Communicate inspection results, project needs, and recommended next steps in a professional and timely manner.
- Collaborate with internal and external teams while managing independent field and office responsibilities.
- Approximately 60% field-based and 40% office-based.
- Regular travel to project sites across the New York City metro area.
- Must be comfortable performing inspections on active construction sites.
- Occasional evening site visits may be required, though they are infrequent.
- Strong working knowledge of the 2022 NYC Building Code, especially as it relates to fire alarm systems, inspections, and code compliance.
- Experience in fire alarm inspection, fire alarm design, fire protection engineering, building code consulting, construction inspection, or a closely related technical field.
- Ability to review drawings, identify field deficiencies, and communicate technical concerns clearly.
- Comfort working on active construction sites and traveling to project locations throughout the NYC metro area.
- Strong communication, organizational, and client-facing skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with project managers, general contractors, site managers, clients, and regulatory stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Fire alarm system design or engineering experience.
- Experience supporting FDNY inspections or working with Authorities Having Jurisdiction.
- Background as a Fire Alarm Inspector, Fire Alarm Designer, Fire Protection Engineer, Fire Protection Consultant, Construction Project Manager, or construction professional with strong building code knowledge.
