Safety Director – Heavy Civil Construction
Location: New York
Salary: $180,000 – $220,000 + Bonus + Benefits
About the Company
Our client is a well-established heavy civil contractor delivering major infrastructure projects throughout New York and the surrounding region. Their portfolio includes complex transportation, utilities, underground infrastructure, concrete, earthwork, and public works projects.
Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced Safety Director to lead and develop the company’s safety program across multiple projects and operations.
About the Role
The Safety Director will have overall responsibility for establishing, implementing, and maintaining the company’s health and safety standards across its heavy civil construction operations.
Working closely with executive leadership, project teams, superintendents, and field personnel, you will ensure that safety remains embedded throughout the business while maintaining compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and client requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead the company-wide safety program across multiple heavy civil construction projects.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve safety policies, procedures, and training programs.
- Provide leadership and direction to project-based Safety Managers and Safety Professionals.
- Conduct project audits, inspections, and safety performance reviews.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and applicable regulatory and client safety requirements.
- Oversee incident investigations, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and reporting.
Requirements
- Extensive safety leadership experience within heavy civil construction.
- Strong background working on large-scale infrastructure projects such as highways, bridges, utilities, underground construction, transportation, or major public works.
- Previous experience managing safety across multiple projects and field teams.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and heavy civil construction safety practices.
- Proven ability to lead, develop, and influence project teams at all levels.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
- Relevant safety qualifications and certifications are highly desirable.
