DACK Consulting Solutions is a growing construction consulting firm supporting technically complex commercial projects throughout New York City and the surrounding areas. As we expand our project portfolio, we are seeking an experienced MEP Estimator to support preconstruction, bidding, and cost planning across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire-protection trades.
Position OverviewThe MEP Estimator will report directly to leadership and play an important role in preconstruction and bid strategy. The successful candidate will prepare comprehensive estimates from conceptual design through GMP and hard-bid phases.
This position requires hands-on estimating experience across all major MEP trades, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection. The MEP Estimator will work closely with architects, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, project managers, and clients to develop accurate and competitive estimates.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare detailed cost estimates for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire-protection systems.
- Perform quantity takeoffs and develop conceptual budgets, GMP estimates, lump-sum bids, and change-order pricing.
- Review MEP drawings, specifications, equipment schedules, and bid documents to ensure complete scope coverage.
- Identify scope gaps, trade overlaps, cost risks, and constructability concerns.
- Solicit, review, and compare subcontractor and supplier proposals.
- Research current labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
- Develop value-engineering and cost-reduction recommendations.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, scope reviews, and site visits.
- Manage multiple estimates and assignments simultaneously.
- Six or more years of MEP estimating experience, preferably within commercial construction.
- Estimating experience across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire-protection trades.
- Experience preparing quantity takeoffs, conceptual budgets, GMP estimates, and hard-bid pricing.
- Ability to read and interpret MEP drawings, specifications, equipment schedules, and bid documents.
- Proficiency with Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, Microsoft Excel, or comparable estimating software.
- Knowledge of New York construction pricing, labor conditions, and subcontractor markets is preferred.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree.
- Strong analytical, organizational, mathematical, and communication skills.
- Salary range: $115,000–$160,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
