Position: WABC - General Assignment Reporter
Location: New York

Disney Entertainment’s eight‑owned ABC stations are multiplatform leaders in local news and information. Producing more than 45 hours of live, local news and weather each week, Channel 7 “Eyewitness News” is the most‑watched local news in New York and the United States.

WABC is looking for an experienced staff general assignment reporter with the ability to authentically engage and connect with our audience. The ideal candidate must be a dynamic and compelling journalist, communicator, and storyteller with a passion for uncovering and reporting the facts, and with integrity above all else. This team member will work collaboratively with producers, assignment editors, and newsroom leaders.

The applicant must demonstrate a full understanding of the powerful voice and responsibility broadcasters have to, and with, the communities we serve. This team member will report for all platforms and dayparts, including early mornings, nights, and weekends.

This is a full‑time staff position. The position is covered under the SAG‑AFTRA‑WABC‑TV Collective Bargaining Agreement. The role is considered on‑site, which means the employee will work from a company‑designated location on an ongoing basis.

Responsibilities
  • On‑air performance
  • Researching, writing, and reporting for multiple platforms on deadline, including owned and distributed digital, streaming, and social media.
  • Generate impactful enterprise leads and utilize investigative tools, including data journalism.
  • Activate social media for promotion, news gathering, and audience engagement across linear and digital platforms.
  • Ensure all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
  • Represent the station publicly and participate in community events.
  • Work early mornings, nights, and weekends as required.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience reporting in a top‑20 market.
  • Exceptional reporting, writing, and interviewing skills.
  • Ability to source and generate impactful enterprise leads and create content using investigative tools.
  • Tenacious investigative approach to uncover stories through research.
  • Expertise in telling high‑impact stories and breaking news coverage.
  • Proficient in producing stories for owned and distributed digital platforms on deadline.
  • Active in using social media for promotion and news gathering.
  • Demonstrated ability to move the audience between linear and digital platforms.
  • Strong commitment to journalistic integrity and production quality.
  • Collaborative self‑starter; must be open to working early mornings, nights, and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Fluency in a second language.
Required Education
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
Benefits & Compensation

The hiring range for this SAG‑AFTRA position in New York is $190,000 to $230,000 per year. The base pay offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long‑term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
