Job Title:
Designer / Senior Designer Role – Mens Casual/Lifestyle
We are seeking a Men’s Apparel Designer with strong experience designing for mass-market retailers, specifically Walmart and Sam’s Club. This role is responsible for creating trend-right, commercially viable men’s apparel (casual / lifestyle / athleisure) that meets price, margin, and quality expectations while aligning with Walmart and Sam’s Club customer demographics and merchandising strategies. The ideal candidate understands value engineering, high-volume programs, and retailer-specific design requirements while delivering modern, competitive product.
ResponsibilitiesDesign & PD
- Design men’s apparel collections across ALL categories such as knits/wovens, tops/bottoms, sport/active, sleep, lounge, basics, and outerwear
- Create detailed tech packs, including construction, measurements, trims, graphics, and colorways
- Execute seasonal line plans that balance core programs and fashion updates
Retailer-Specific Execution
- Partner with customer PD/Design teams to align designs with retailer line reviews, floor sets, and seasonal strategies
- Support buyer presentations with clear design rationale and competitive analysis
Cost & Sourcing Awareness
- Collaborate with sourcing, development, and overseas vendors to maintain design intent while meeting cost requirements
- Participate in fabric selection, trim optimization, and value engineering initiatives
Collaboration & Communication
- Work cross-functionally with PD, sourcing, and production teams and most importantly, internal design teams to create synergies across genders and categories
- Communicate clearly with overseas partners regarding design intent and revisions
- Review samples, provide comments, and approve designs through production milestones
Trend & Market Research
- Conduct ongoing trend, market, and competitive research specific to mass-market men’s apparel
- Monitor Walmart and Sam’s Club assortments, competitors, and consumer shifts
- Translate macro trends into commercially successful, scalable designs
Travel
- Must be willing to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of your time
- Locations and cadence:
Bentonville, AR USA - 4/6 times annually for customer appointments - Wuxi, China - 2 times annually for PD
- Egypt/Jordan - ad hoc as needed
- India/Bangladesh/Vietnam - ad hoc as needed
- 3–7 years of men’s apparel design experience, preferably in mass or value retail
- Direct experience designing for Walmart and/or Sam’s Club (strongly preferred)
- Strong understanding of men’s fits, fabrics, and construction (women’s/kid's experience a plus)
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, MIRO, Style Zone and PLM systems
