Job #42709

Job Summary

PFB is seeking an Editorial Manager or Editorial Director to work closely with agents to provide editorial and project management services for high performing literary agents with multiple bestselling authors. This role will support senior primary agents and their clients in providing different levels of editorial feedback including developmental edits, line/copy edits, and proofreading. The ideal candidate has experience editing commercial and genre fiction, is invigorated by high volume work and can multi-task projects at different stages.

The role requires strong written and verbal communication skills, publishing marketing knowledge, and the ability to collaborate with others using objectivity and reasonableness. This job is perfect for experienced editors with a minimum of six years publishing experience, looking to spend their days working with talented authors on making their manuscripts shine.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform various levels of edits depending on needs and timelines of agents—developmental, line/copy edits and proofreading.
  • Able to summarize manuscripts for internal use and provide project oversight to key agency departments.
  • Communicate in depth with authors to discuss edits for submission and/or publication and create a good author experience while editing.
  • Collaborative and able to adapt and incorporate agent notes and input into edits.
  • Works well with various changing deadlines and able to jump from project to project.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience editing in publishing (freelance or with a publisher)
  • Strong understanding of editing commercial and genre fiction (romance a plus!)
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Can handle high volume workload and can juggle multiple project deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, specifically when communicating with authors
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality
Requirements for Applying

Please send your CV, cover letter, along with 3 editorial letters you have written (you can redact names) and 3 bestselling books that you wish you had edited and why to John Maas. Position reports directly to Kimberly Brower.
