Bowery Gallery 35th Annual Art Competition
International – Every year The Bowery Gallery Annual Juried Competition is open to all applicants working in two-dimensional media.
Bowery is pleased to present this year’s juried competition. All selected works will be hung in the gallery’s space in Chelsea, NYC from July 28 – August 15, 2026.
EligibilityEligible media include painting, drawing, printmaking, pastel and mixed media. Sculpture, photography and digital art are not eligible. Works may not exceed 36" in height or width, not including frame. Bowery accepts applications from outside the U.S.
JurorSusan Lichtman is a figurative painter of domestic spaces. She is Professor and Charles Bloom Chair, Emerita, of the Department of Fine Arts at Brandeis University, where she taught for over 40 years. She has also taught at The Chautauqua Institute, The Pont-Aven School of Art and Mass Art New England. She has been a visiting artist at numerous colleges and universities around the U.S. Lichtman has had solo exhibitions at Steven Harvey Fine Arts Projects (NY, NY);
Fahrenheit Gallery (Madrid, Spain);
Gross McCleaf Gallery, (Philadelphia, PA); and Wilson Museum at Hollins University (Roanoke, VA), among many other venues… see more
A $35.00 entry fee allows each artist to submit 1-3 images. A $6.00 fee is required for each additional image. A maximum of 6 images may be submitted.
Apply OnlineBowery Gallery will make every effort to notify all applicants of juror’s decision by June 1, 2026.
SalesAll work will be for sale unless artist states otherwise. All proceeds will go to the artist.
AboutThe Bowery Gallery is a co-operative art gallery in New York City founded in 1969. Its mission is to exhibit work of the highest quality from independent artists. Exhibitions at the Bowery Gallery have received notice in The New York Times, Arts, Art in America, Modern Painters, ARTnews, , Vogue, The New Criterion, The New York Sun, The Observer and The New Republic.
The gallery is incorporated as a non-profit organization of representational and non-representational artists.
