Through mentorship, social-emotional learning, education, and creative expression, MAP creates safe, consistent, and empowering spaces where young people can thrive. Storytelling is central to MAP’s work. Through film, MAP documents lived experiences, elevates youth and community voices, and builds public understanding around housing instability, resilience, and possibility.

Role Overview

The Film Producer leads the development and execution of MAP’s film and video storytelling projects. This role oversees production from concept through delivery—shaping narratives, coordinating teams, managing timelines, and ensuring that all content is ethically produced, trauma-informed, and mission-aligned. The ideal candidate brings production experience, strong organizational skills, and a deep respect for community-centered storytelling.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead film and video projects from concept development through post-production
  • Translate MAP’s mission and program work into compelling, responsible visual stories
  • Coordinate directors, cinematographers, editors, and other creative collaborators
  • Manage production schedules, workflows, and deliverables
  • Oversee logistics, releases, and permissions in coordination with MAP leadership
  • Ensure productions follow trauma-informed, youth-safe, and ethical storytelling practices
  • Collaborate with communications, development, and program teams to align content goals
  • Support distribution strategies for screenings, digital platforms, and fundraising use
Qualifications
  • Experience producing film, documentary, or narrative video projects
  • Strong project management and creative leadership skills
  • Ability to balance artistic vision with logistics, timelines, and resources
  • Understanding of ethical storytelling, consent, and community representation
  • Clear communication and collaborative working style
  • Alignment with MAP’s mission and values
Preferred Skills
  • Documentary or nonprofit storytelling experience
  • Familiarity with youth-centered or social-impact media
  • Experience managing small production teams or freelance collaborators
  • Comfort working within limited budgets or volunteer-based environments
Commitment
  • Volunteer role
  • Approximately 5–10 hours per week
  • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
  • Remote collaboration with periodic NYC-based production activity
What You’ll Gain
  • Leadership experience producing mission-driven film projects
  • Creative autonomy with meaningful social impact
  • Collaboration with artists, educators, and nonprofit leaders
  • Professional recognition and letters of recommendation upon completion
  • The opportunity to help shape how housing instability and resilience are seen and understood
