Criterion is a New York-based company devoted to bringing a carefully curated library of international classic and contemporary films together with an audience of passionate movie lovers. With in-house departments devoted to design, editorial, production, and post-production, we produce a celebrated line of Blu-rays, 4K Ultra HD discs, and DVDs; publish an online magazine, the Current; release new films and restorations in theaters through our partner company, Janus Films;
and run our own streaming service, The Criterion Channel.
We are hiring a Library Coordinator for the Criterion Collection and Janus Films. Our ideal candidate has a passion for film and video and at least 3-5 years of experience in media library management, film and video restoration, or theatrical or home video distribution.
Reporting to the Head of Library and Media Operations, the Library Coordinator will support the management of our diverse library of over 2,000 international classic and contemporary films, ensuring that we always have the highest quality and latest materials available. In doing so, they will develop a deep knowledge of the Criterion and Janus libraries: its titles, condition of in-house materials, and status of related mastering projects.
They will work closely with in-house acquisition and theatrical teams to order materials and track digital deliveries, developing and maintaining relationships with contacts from studios, sales agents, archives, and restoration facilities around the world. Over time, the Library Coordinator will understand and be able to efficiently communicate the statuses and idiosyncrasies of projects at various stages of completion.
The ideal candidate will excel at prioritization, always maintaining sharp awareness of upcoming deadlines and completing their work accordingly. They will quickly adapt to existing internal processes, while also looking for ways to make those workflows more efficient.
Responsibilities- Assist the Head of Library and Media Operations in ordering and ensuring the successful delivery of assets for films in the Criterion and Janus Films libraries: evaluating materials for contractual consistency upon receipt, communicating statuses, and problem-solving to address issues as they arise
- Collaborate with Library and Media Operations teams to confirm that incoming materials are processed and reviewed in a timely manner
- Field internal queries about statuses of and materials related to titles in the Criterion and Janus libraries
- Provide support to the Janus theatrical team on materials-related needs for both first run and repertory releases
- Establish and maintain relationships with global licensors and servicing departments
- Collaborate with Criterion producers to order archival supplements from licensors
- Work with rights holders to confirm legal and acknowledgement language for theatrical and home video releases
- Confirm completeness of and implement improvements to internal tracking systems
- 3–5 years experience in theatrical or home video distribution, media management, film restoration, audiovisual archives, or a cultural heritage institution
- Exceptional project management and organizational skills
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated experience using relational databases and project management software
- Working knowledge of broadcast, digital video, and audio formats
- Knowledge and practiced application of archival theory and best practices
- Strong appreciation for and familiarity with world cinema and film history
This is a permanent, full-time position with excellent benefits–including medical, dental, 401K matching, and a generous vacation policy. Base salary range is $65,000 – $75,000/year, commensurate with experience. The nature of the work will require you to be physically present in our New York, NY office.
