ABOUT

THE ROLE

Building on our foundation of podcasting success, Kaleidoscope is launching a dedicated video department encompassing high-quality video podcasts, social originals, and ambitious You Tube series. We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Production Manager or Line Producer for a project-based role to lead the initial logistical phase of this expansion.

In this role, you will be crucial in converting our popular audio-only podcasts into visually compelling video formats. Beyond managing current logistics, you will be the architect of our production infrastructure, establishing the scalable systems, workflows, and professional best practices that will define the video department’s future growth and operational excellence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee the strategic conversion of audio podcasts to high-quality video formats.
  • Manage equipment procurement and negotiate contracts with studio spaces.
  • Lead the hiring and onboarding of key personnel for pilot phases, including senior editors, motion graphics designers, and production designers.
  • Build and maintain a robust pool of mid- and junior-level editors for ongoing series work.
  • Oversee the creation of comprehensive "edit series bibles" for each show to ensure visual consistency.
  • Departmental Infrastructure & SOPs
  • Establish departmental best practices, including the creation of budget documents, tracking systems, and cost reporting for all video projects.
  • Standardize departmental documentation, including deal memos, release forms, and call sheets.
  • Write Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), producer checklists, and technical specifications for all shoots.
  • Develop production schedule templates in Airtable, ensuring seamless integration with existing audio processes.
  • Ensure comprehensive insurance coverage is in place for the full scope of anticipated productions.
  • Establish and manage relationships with key production vendors for equipment rental and purchasing.
  • Create and maintain a rigorous inventory system for all company-purchased equipment.
  • Support the production services business by creating client-facing budget and schedule documents.
  • Develop a comprehensive production services rate card to drive business growth.
YOU’D BE A GREAT FIT IF YOU…
  • Have extensive, hands‑on experience building production systems and workflows from the ground up (e.g., establishing a new department or studio).
  • Thrive on detail and possess a deep understanding of the logistical requirements of digital media and video production.
  • Are an expert in Airtable and other project management tools used to track complex, cross‑functional workflows.
  • Communicate clearly and can navigate the needs of both creative talent and technical crews.
BONUS POINTS FOR…
  • Prior experience in a Line Producer role within a rapidly scaling media environment.
  • Deep familiarity with the specific technical needs of podcast‑to‑video adaptations.
  • A strong network of freelance production talent (editors, GFX designers, etc.) in the New York area.
  • Experience integrating video production workflows into existing audio‑first environments.
WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS

Kaleidoscope is on a mission to change how the world understands science — and as Production Manager, you will be the logistical engine that makes that mission possible. You won't just manage shoots; you will build the bedrock of our video operations, ensuring that as our ideas reach screens worldwide, they do so through a world‑class production machine.
