Location: New York

Media Lab Books, a fast-growing, dynamic publisher is seeking a Senior Acquisitions Editor to help shape and expand a diverse nonfiction list across a range of categories. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced publishing professional with strong editorial instincts, commercial awareness, and a passion for developing standout book projects.

What You'll Do
  • Evaluate proposals and manuscripts and recommend strong projects for acquisition.
  • Conceptualize and develop original book ideas and secure authors to bring them to life.
  • Manage a personal acquisitions list and acquire approximately 8–10 titles per year.
  • Prepare P&Ls, acquisition memos, and assess the commercial viability of potential titles.
  • Perform developmental and line editing; support other editors when needed.
  • Oversee the full editorial process from acquisition through publication, partnering closely with production, design, and marketing.
  • Draft catalog, jacket, and title information sheet copy.
  • Cultivate ongoing relationships with authors and agents.
  • Provide editorial guidance on content, structure, and style.
  • Support PR and Marketing teams on select initiatives.
  • Take on special projects and contribute to a collaborative, creative team culture.
What You Bring
  • Proven background in editorial acquisitions and list development.
  • Strong developmental and line‑editing skills, with impeccable proofreading abilities.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment, juggling multiple deadlines with strong organizational skills.
  • Strong understanding of sales data, market trends, and how to position nonfiction titles for success.
  • A collaborative, solutions‑oriented mindset and ability to build strong working relationships.
  • Familiarity with InDesign is a plus.
