Job Description & How to Apply Below
Location: New York
The Graphic Designer / Canva Specialist creates branded, accessible, and neurodivergent-friendly visual assets that elevate TTWI’s workshops, reports, social media, and participant communications. This role turns our values—psychological safety, belonging, and human dignity—into visual stories that are clear, inclusive, and easy to engage with across cultures and learning styles.
Your work will help ensure that:
- Our presentations, toolkits, and posts are visually consistent and recognizable as TTWI.
- Content is easy to follow for neurodivergent thinkers and global audiences (contrast, layout, pacing, icons, simple structure).
- Visuals are copyright‑aware, using original or appropriately licensed artwork and imagery.
- Design presentation decks, infographics, social media graphics, and PDF handouts for workshops, trainings, and internal briefings.
- Create branded templates in Canva (slides, social tiles, one‑pagers, quote cards, email headers) that the wider team can reuse.
- Develop data‑informed visuals (simple charts, diagrams, and info boxes) that make survey insights and program outcomes easy to understand.
- Support visuals for reports, newsletters, and stories that highlight volunteer experiences and well‑being themes.
- Design with accessibility in mind (readable fonts, high contrast, clear hierarchy, sufficient spacing, limited text density).
- Use layout, color, and iconography that support neurodivergent learners—step‑by‑step flows, reduced clutter, consistent symbols, and calming yet engaging color choices.
- Incorporate guidance for screen‑reader‑friendly practices, such as space for alt text descriptions and logical reading order in slides/PDFs.
- Partner with the team to test and refine designs based on feedback from global and neurodiverse audiences.
- Maintain and evolve the Thrive Together brand kit (colors, fonts, logos, graphic elements, styles) in Canva.
- Ensure all visuals feel cohesive across workshops, social media, onboarding, and internal docs.
- Help document simple brand usage guidelines so other team members can create on‑brand materials with confidence.
- Work closely with the Founding Director (Kai) and the Social Media & Community Engagement Lead (or Engagement & Communications Lead) to translate content outlines into visuals.
- Join select planning meetings (as capacity allows) to understand upcoming workshop themes, campaigns, and communication needs.
- Offer design suggestions early in the process (e.g., which formats or layouts might best support a particular learning objective).
- Use only original designs, licensed assets, or properly credited graphics/photos in line with copyright best practices and TTWI’s values.
- Avoid the unlicensed use of third‑party logos, personal images, or sensitive visuals.
- Maintain an organized Canva folder structure (and export system), so files are easy to find and reuse.
We value potential, alignment, and willingness to learn as much as formal titles.
- Strong sense of visual design and hierarchy (typography, color, spacing, layout).
- Understanding of or interest in accessibility and inclusive design (contrast, readability, cognitive load).
- Ability to translate complex or sensitive topics (burnout, mental health, global stressors) into visuals that are gentle, clear, and non‑sensational.
- Proficient in Canva (required) – confident in creating multi‑page decks, templates, and branded assets.
- Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) is a plus, not required.
- Familiarity with visual branding (brand consistency, style guides) and basic copyright practices (licensed stock, attribution, non‑plagiarizing use of icons and imagery) is helpful.
- Portfolio or sample work demonstrating clean, people‑centered, and accessible design (Canva links are welcome).
- Approximately 15‑20 hours per week (flexible, remote, volunteer role).
- Founding Director
- Social Media & Community Engagement Lead / Engagement & Communications Lead
