About the Role

The Wall Street Journal is seeking an experienced, energetic and creative host and producer to be the voice of a new technology-focused podcast in development. In this role you will deliver important tech and markets news and analysis to the WSJ’s growing, global audience of engaged listeners through interviews, original reporting and news segments.

Responsibilities
  • Host and produce a tech news podcast, managing all tasks involved in writing, recording, and mixing the show on deadline.
  • Host, produce and mix daily tech news headline shows.
  • React quickly to breaking news, providing suggestions for guest interviews and securing interviews on deadline.
  • Write snappy news items that convey the essential aspects of important stories in a straightforward, easy‑to‑understand way.
  • Write SEO‑friendly headlines, show descriptions and social language to attract new audiences and encourage listening.
  • Collaborate with editors, producers and social media teams to promote the podcast and WSJ across newsletters and external media.
  • Interview WSJ reporters and external sources, asking insightful questions that get to the story in a conversational manner.
  • Conduct original reporting that distinguishes the podcast from other tech podcasts.
  • Proactively propose interviews and episode ideas, maintaining a consistent pipeline of strong and timely opportunities.
  • Book news makers and industry leaders, researching and preparing thoroughly to make an impact.
  • Pitch and execute special series and coverage, including narrative‑style episodes beyond the daily brief’s parameters.
  • Ensure all content meets the highest production values and WSJ journalistic and legal standards.
  • Meet tight deadlines in a changing news environment and handle pressure as needed.
  • Pivot quickly when news events warrant, altering show plans on the fly.
  • Collaborate with reporters and editors across the newsroom to develop story ideas and episodes.
  • Work with the live journalism team to conduct interviews that extend the brand beyond the podcast.
  • Manage multiple projects at various stages of development and production.
  • Work late hours and weekends as news developments may warrant.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, including work on existing tech news shows during the launch of this new offering.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of professional journalism experience, including a business and/or tech news background. Experience at a tech‑focused news organization or covering technology is a plus.
  • 3+ years of audio production experience, including daily audio news or a similar format produced on a tight deadline. Training will be provided for the right candidate.
  • Demonstrated reporting experience in or outside of tech.
  • A lively, engaging on‑mic presence that connects with audiences.
  • Comfort and enthusiasm for appearing on video.
  • Strong editorial judgment and broad knowledge of current events, business, technology, and economics.
  • Experience researching, scripting, and conducting engaging interviews of various lengths.
  • Experience communicating with and booking guests, including a robust contact list of news makers and industry executives.
  • Expertise in delivering accurate, fact‑checked scripts and reporting that meets WSJ standards.
  • Proficiency in cutting and mixing tape using Descript, and either Pro Tools or Audition.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Calmness under pressure and the ability to react to breaking news.
  • A talent for managing multiple projects concurrently.
  • Experience working in multiple audio formats and styles.
  • Experience with field recording is a plus.
Benefits and Compensation

Pay Range: $120,000 – $140,000. The company offers a comprehensive benefits package, including physical health, retirement, caregiving, emotional wellbeing, transportation, and elective benefits that employees may choose to best fit their needs.
