Reuters is looking for a skilled, creative and ambitious editor to oversee our coverage of Capitol Hill, U.S. politics generally and federal law enforcement. The ideal candidate would move easily between fast‑breaking news and enterprise, with the goal of capturing the news moment with distinctive stories and inspiring the best possible work from a talented, diverse group of reporters.

The ability to work with reporters to get scoops and break news is a must, as is the ability to elevate copy.

The best candidate for this job also will have a knack for finding the engaging, the offbeat, the illuminating story target that others might not see. This editor will also have a leading role in shaping Reuters’ coverage of the coming elections in 2026 and 2028, with ample opportunity to put a stamp on the most important political stories of our time.

The position reports to the Washington bureau chief.
