Promise Studios is MAP’s creative production engine — spanning film, photography, publishing, fashion, and civic storytelling.

Animation within Promise Studios is not decorative media.

It is narrative architecture in motion.

We use animation to:

• Bring children’s literature to life
• Translate complex civic and policy concepts into accessible visual stories
• Support adaptive fashion and sanitation innovation campaigns
• Create youth-centered storytelling platforms
• Develop short-form and long-form motion narratives

Animation allows us to transform imagination into accessible visual language.

We are seeking a Creative Director of Animation & Motion Storytelling to define and lead the animation strategy across Promise Studios.

This founding leadership role will:

• Establish visual style systems
• Define motion language and character architecture
• Oversee storyboard development and narrative pacing
• Guide production pipelines from concept through final render

The Creative Director will ensure that animation projects align with MAP’s dignity-centered mission while maintaining high production quality and cohesive visual identity.

This role requires artistic vision, technical fluency, and production discipline.

• Define the animation style architecture for Promise Studios
• Lead development of animated adaptations of children’s books
• Oversee motion graphics for civic, policy, and marketing initiatives
• Develop character design systems and environmental visual frameworks
• Direct storyboard development and scene sequencing
• Guide voiceover alignment, sound integration, and pacing direction
• Establish production workflow standards and quality benchmarks
• Collaborate with publishing and film teams for cross-medium cohesion
• Ensure safeguarding and ethical representation standards in youth-centered animation
• Oversee asset management and long-term animation library systems
• Maintain timely, professional responsiveness via email and chat in Google Workspace

• Background in animation, motion design, visual storytelling, or related field
• Demonstrated experience directing animation projects
• Strong understanding of character design, visual pacing, and narrative flow
• Experience managing animation pipelines from concept to delivery
• Proficiency in animation tools (e.g., After Effects, Blender, Toon Boom, or equivalent)
• Portfolio demonstrating cohesive visual and storytelling leadership

• Experience adapting written stories into animated formats
• Familiarity with youth-centered content development
• Experience in nonprofit or mission-driven creative production
• Knowledge of motion branding systems
• Experience managing distributed animation teams

• Founding leadership role
• Structured engagement (minimum 5–10 hours per week for executive volunteer track; scalable during production cycles)
• Remote with NYC collaboration as needed
• 6-month minimum commitment preferred
