Assistant Music Director for a Disability-Inclusive Choir
Actionplay, a disability‑inclusive theatre nonprofit, is looking for an Assistant Music Director for our community choir, the Actionplay Voices Choir. The choir is made up of amateur and professional neurodivergent and disabled singers and performs pop hits with harmony and gusto. The Assistant Music Director will support neurodivergent and disabled singers with various accessibility needs, provide musical accompaniment, assist with rehearsal management, and retrieve rehearsal materials.
The Assistant Music Director will report to Jackson Tucker‑Meyer, Interim Executive Director, and Shane Dittmar, Music Director. Rehearsals for the Spring season run Sunday afternoons 2‑4 pm beginning March 15, culminating in a concert on Saturday, June 20. All rehearsals and the concert will take place in Manhattan. Pay is $100 per weekly rehearsal and performance, for a total of $1,300 for this season, with possible renewal for future seasons.
Responsibilities- Provide piano accompaniment for rehearsals and performance
- Manage rehearsals, redirect and deescalate conflict while keeping rehearsal moving
- Retrieve, sort, and distribute sheet‑music printouts as needed
- Experience accompanying or participating in community choir programs
- Experience teaching music and/or providing vocal instruction to non‑professional singers
- Experience working with autistic, neurodivergent, or disabled teens and adults
