Editorial Assistant for Women’s Studies Quarterly May 18, 2022
Women’s Studies Quarterly (WSQ) seeks a CUNY Graduate Center doctoral student for an Assistant Editorial position for the academic year, with the option to renew for a second year. WSQ is a peer‑reviewed feminist interdisciplinary journal featuring academic articles, art, prose and poetry engaging emerging issues in women, gender, and sexuality studies. The journal is published by the Feminist Press with support from the Center for the Humanities and the Center for the Study of Women and Society at the CUNY Graduate Center.

Grad B Editorial Assistant to Women’s Studies Quarterly duties and responsibilities:
- Works closely with other members of the editorial and publishing team
- Oversees the production process of an academic journal from its conception until it goes to Feminist Press for publication, including communication between contributors, editors, and publishers
- Closely maintains the WSQ editorial email account, WSQ webpage, and WSQ Submittable
- Maintains WSQ’s social media platforms: twitter, Instagram and Facebook
- Collaborates on various marketing and publicity efforts for the journal including issue launch events
- Performs research for the general and guest editors as necessary
- Keeps records and maintains the WSQ archive
- Possess excellent writing, editing, and communication skills
- Have experience with professional digital communication tools such as email, Dropbox, and Google Drive. Desired:
Knowledge of or experience with Wordpress and the ability to quickly learn and use our online issue management system, Submittable - Have the capacity to meet and manage deadlines on a tight production schedule, including the ability to multitask and handle overlapping projects
- Be independently motivated and comfortable working in a collaborative environment
- Have a strong interest in feminist publishing
- Have social media experience or interest in maintaining and developing WSQ’s presence on social media platforms. Desired:

Hours: 10 hours a week
Starting Salary for a CUNY GC Grad B: $13,215, but if a candidate has been a Grad B before, they will be put at their own current Grad B level
Financial aid information:
If already a GCF, one can still receive the Grad B funds through Financial Aid. If one is a tuition‑only fellow, the Provost’s Office staff who manage the graduate assistant appointments will follow up regarding the dates and process for the Human Resources Onboarding for current students.
