The Senior Technical Designer, Cut & Sew is responsible for ensuring all garments meet design intent, brand fit standards, and quality expectations through expert oversight of fit, construction, and manufacturing processes. This role partners closely with Design, Product Development, Production, and factory teams to drive consistency, quality, and efficiency from concept through production while maintaining adherence to seasonal calendars and critical deadlines.
Responsibilities- Develop and maintain accurate technical specifications for all new styles within the Cut & Sew category, ensuring consistency across product lines.
- Lead the development and maintenance of block pattern libraries to support fit consistency and uphold brand standards.
- Create, manage, and oversee technical packages, including garment specifications, points of measure (POMs), construction details, grading, and fit comments from prototype through bulk production.
- Partner with Design, Product Development, and Production teams to identify and resolve fit, quality, construction, and manufacturing issues throughout development.
- Collaborate with the Senior Director of Technical Design & Operations to establish and maintain fit standards across all product categories.
- Lead live fit sessions, partnering with Designers and Patternmakers to achieve the desired fit, functionality, and aesthetic.
- Evaluate vendor samples for fit, construction, and workmanship; recommend pattern corrections and garment engineering solutions as needed.
- Work closely with Patternmakers, Production teams, and factories to resolve construction, quality, and workmanship challenges.
- Approve fit samples through all stages of development, ensuring alignment with the seasonal Time & Action calendar and production milestones.
- Finalize and issue graded production specifications for all approved styles.
- Track overseas sample development and shipment status to ensure timely fit approvals for Counter Samples (CS), Pre-Production Samples (PP), and Top of Production (TOP) samples.
- Maintain clear, timely, and professional communication across all internal and external partners.
- Foster a collaborative, solutions-oriented team environment that encourages open feedback and partnership.
- Manage, mentor, and develop Associate and Assistant Technical Designers.
- 7+ years of apparel technical design experience.
- Extensive experience in Cut & Sew product development and technical design.
- Experience across both women's and men's apparel categories.
- Strong expertise in garment fit, pattern evaluation, grading, and garment construction.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Cut & Sew construction methods, manufacturing processes, and stitching techniques.
- Experience working with luxury and/or contemporary apparel brands.
- Experience across multiple product categories, including leather garments.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Adobe Illustrator.
- Proficiency in RLM and Gerber systems.

In compliance with the New York City salary transparency requirements, the potential salary for this position is from $120,000 to $127,000, which represents a range commensurate with experience, knowledge, and skills required.
