Location: New York
Beth Morrison Projects seeks an Associate Producer to support operations of the PROTOTYPE Festival, an annual festival of new opera and music theatre, taking place January 13-24, 2027.
Core ResponsibilitiesReporting to PROTOTYPE’s Producer, and working closely with Festival Director, the Associate Producer’s responsibilities include:
- Administrative Support:
- Support the Festival Producer in maintaining and updating contact sheets, calendars, and programming spreadsheets
- Provide ad hoc administrative and producing support to the Festival Producer and broader production team as needed
- Internal and External Communication:
- Schedule, attend, and document meetings; tracking and follow up with all open action items as necessary
- Support festival-wide communications across artists, staff, and venue partners
- Performance and Event Coordination:
- Take the lead, with guidance and support from the Festival Producer, on producing one PROTOTYPE concert
- Provide support in organizing ancillary events such as receptions and artist talkbacks
- Act as on-site front of house support as needed during festival
- Internship Program Management:
- Manage PROTOTYPE’s internship program, including interviewing, scheduling, and supervising a team of approximately 10 interns
- Artist Services:
- Oversee the assembly of production Welcome Packets and Welcome Bags
The AP role is an early‑career position, and BMP is committed to the training, development, and future career development of the person hired into this role. To succeed in this role, the following basic core competencies are expected:
- Interest and Experience in Performing Arts: Excitement and passion for the performing arts, and passion for BMP’s mission to foster innovation in the field, and a desire to create a supportive environment for artists; prior experience working in the performing arts in a professional or academic environment. An ability to read sheet music is strongly preferred.

Skills:
Exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to track and manage complex logistics, schedules, and documentation; the ability to keep projects moving forward by tracking different workflows and deadlines, identifying necessary action steps, and manage collaborations between team members. - Initiative and Problem‑Solving
Skills:
The ability to notice and flag issues or complications as they arise, and help brainstorm ways to address those issues; an ability to prioritize independently and collaboratively to address immediate, medium‑term, and long‑term needs. - Communication
Skills:
The ability to convey information clearly, professionally, and transparently, both verbally and in writing, with a variety of stakeholders; the ability to successfully adapt communications to various personalities, styles, and preferences.
While not required, the following skills would be an asset for the Associate Producer:
- 2-3 years of professional experience in artistic producing, arts administration, production, or stage management; experience working directly with professional artists a plus.
- Specific interest or experience in contemporary opera, new music, or other experimental/avant‑garde theater/performance.
- Knowledge of or experience with diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and justice principles; experience integrating anti‑oppression concepts into an artistic process a plus.
- Experience tracking expenses/managing a budget.
- Experience with Dropbox (or other cloud storage/file hosting software), Trello (or other project management tools), and/or Airtable (or other cloud‑based database).
This is a seasonal role, with a term from August 10, 2026 – January 31, 2027 (Festival Dates are January 13–24, 2027). Workload gradually increases throughout the term:
- Approximately 15 hours per week through October
- Increasing to 20–25 hours per week in November
- Full‑time commitment required from December through January
