The Assistant Designer begins their career at Macy’s on the On 34th - RTW Design Team, actively engaging in the process of learning the company culture, area, brand aesthetics, and principles. This role provides an opportunity to think, dream, and create, seeking designers who are visionaries and leaders. WhatYou Will Do
- Develop an understanding of the On 34th brand DNA and build skills in researching competitor markets, trends, and customer preferences.
- Assist the Design Team in aligning with the Private Brand direction by incorporating materials, trims, silhouettes, colors, and patterns across RTW woven categories (woven tops, dresses, non-denim bottoms/skirts, jackets/outerwear).
- Expand design knowledge by supporting the team in executing a strategic vision with a progressive, customer-cen tric approach, contributing to overall product strategy and merchandise objectives.
- Assist in preparing presentation materials and set-up for design-led meetings.
- Contribute to in-season design changes for the department and vendors.
- Strengthen skills for active participation in cross-functional team meetings, summarizing action points for the manager.
- Collaborate closely with the Senior Designer to meet deadlines and understand priority and workload expectations.
- Assist and develop skills in creating flat mechanical sketches for design development packages for woven categories.
- Participate in creating and distributing tech packages.
- Assist in approving strike-offs, samples, and other development materials.
- Acquire skills in using Adobe and CLO programs for style, color, and pattern development.
- Review and provide feedback on development samples.
- Establish relationships and maintain regular communication with cross-functional partners throughout the development cycle.
- Learn on the job how to identify opportunities and develop an assortment.
- Demonstrate the ability to collaborate and achieve results with a desire to grow within the company and pursue a career at Macy’s.

Skills:

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Strong skills for actively participating in cross-functional team meetings, summarizing action points for the manager, and collaborating closely with team leaders to meet deadlines.
Technical
Skills:
Ability to create flat mechanical sketches for design development packages, work with Adobe and CLO programs for style, color, and pattern development, and participate in creating and distributing tech packages.
Relationship Building: Establish relationships and maintain regular communication with cross-functional partners throughout the development cycle.
Adaptability and Learning: Willingness to learn on the job, identify opportunities, and develop an assortment.
Communication
Skills:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, crucial for effective collaboration and achieving results.
Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Adobe Design programs.
PLM Knowledge: Working knowledge of PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) is a plus.
Color and Print Sense: Strong color sense and print sense, with the ability to view and differentiate the color spectrum.
