Senior Writer Job Description

EW Senior Writers are responsible for producing breaking news content and other features. A successful Senior Writer will be a team player who has excellent writing and communication skills as well as a deep love and knowledge of entertainment and pop culture. In addition to covering daily news, this person will work closely with the TV/Movies Editor and Editorial Director to help plan, brainstorm, and execute coverage across network TV, streaming, and film.

Successful candidates will produce well‑reported and engaging content under tight deadlines, collaborate with editors on beat assignments, craft coverage plans, negotiate exclusives, and cultivate relationships with publicists and other relevant external collaborators and sources. The Senior Writer must also be willing to work occasional off‑hours and weekends as necessary.

• 80% — Write breaking entertainment news stories and other features.
• 20% — Cover events, conduct interviews and make rollout plans as needed, and other duties as assigned.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or related field or equivalent work experience.

Experience:

Minimum 5-7 years entertainment journalism writing experience.

Specific

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Excellent writing and communication skills.
• Strong knowledge of entertainment, pop culture, and the EW brand.
• An idea generator who can come up with new, fresh story ideas.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment.
• Experience with SEO, social media, content management systems, analytics tools, and Photoshop.

Travel Required:

Not anticipated, but may be assigned.

Salary:
New York: $90,000.00 - $90,000.00. The pay range above represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position and may change in the future. Actual pay may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to work location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of People Inc's total compensation package for employees.

Other compensation may include annual bonuses and short‑ and long‑term incentives.
