Location: New York

Applause Theatrical Workshops , the premier performing arts program on the Upper East Side, is seeking Teaching Artists our Theater program, for our pre‑K and early elementary age groups.

We are looking for enthusiastic, energetic, and highly engaging educators with experience working with children in the performing arts. Ideal candidates bring a strong sense of play, professionalism, excellent classroom leadership skills, and natural comedic instincts that help create a joyful, creative, and confidence-building environment for young performers.

Responsibilities

Stage musical theater numbers for end‑of‑semester showcases.

Utilize the existing curriculum to create exciting, dynamic, and engaging classes for students of all skill levels.

Collaborate with the creative team to help shape the artistic vision of productions and showcases.

Work effectively with young performers of varying ages and experience levels.

Lead rehearsals and classes with clarity, patience, positivity, and high energy.

Develop and execute organized rehearsal plans that keep every student actively involved.

Create engaging choreography and staging that encourage students to grow as performers.

Teach movement, character work, and performance techniques clearly and effectively.

Foster a fun, inclusive, and structured rehearsal room environment where students feel supported and inspired.

Qualifications

1–2 years of experience working with children (ages 3–11) in a performing arts setting.

Strong communication, leadership, and classroom management skills.

A collaborative spirit and genuine passion for arts education.

Background in musical theater required.

Strong comedic instincts and an ability to connect with young performers through humor, creativity, and imaginative storytelling.

Ideal Candidates Are

Naturally enthusiastic, energetic, and engaging.

Comfortable thinking on their feet and bringing a sense of fun to the rehearsal room.

Comfortable commanding a room and managing a group of young people.

Skilled at balancing structure and discipline with playfulness and creativity.

Passionate about helping young performers build confidence, teamwork, and performance skills.

Committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students.
